Ed said this would be the first and last time he would sing the very masterpiece he gave to One Direction for their new album "Take Me Home".
The audio is from a live concert and I edited a bit to make it sound better with less people noise :D

Ed is a gem...you know why? Because although he knew this song was going to be an absolute hit, he didn't keep it to himself. He gave it to 1D because he knew they had more female fans who needed this song. (this is not to say that it wouldn't have any meaning if he sang it). I think it's really lovely that he wanted this song to actually help others with their insecurities.

+Zoey4223 Cause he wrote it ... knowing the intonation and the feeling behind it . Welcome to the music industry where they put awesome voices on the top 5 radio with nothing to say while guys just like ed sheeran could probably make 5 top sellers with the last 2 pages of his book, sometimes if it's not your song to sing and you just don't feel it you sell it just like Sia or sometimes it's just quicker to sell it for a few without all the publicity or fame/radio/tv appearances that comes with it. this "cover" was a slip-up since he sold all rights to one directions beforehand, I believe this was live.

Ed really sings it better because He is the one that wrote it. When a singer writes a song he feels the song well at least for ed here he feels the song and he really feels the song, One Direction ok they probably know the feeling but they do not know the EXACT feeling ed felt when writing this which is why Ed would sing this better than anyone else

Of course this song would've never been popular without One Direction singing it. And you know why? Because Ed never sang it, he didn't put it in his album... he said he had forgot about this song and when he found it he decided to sell it to 1D. Sorry but I reckon that if Little Things was in his album it would've had the same success. It's not One Direction who make it so special, it's just the lyrics and the song itself.

Why are people beating up 1D for singing it even though it's written by Ed? Does it really matter? Ed gave the song to them, which means there was a mutual agreement that 1D get to put it on their album. Why are y'all giving 1D shit for just one song? And besides, Ed is so talented, and not just for this song. Why is it such a big deal over him not putting this one song on his album, when his album is full of other amazing songs he made? It doesn't make sense. Just because this song went really popular, and Ed wasn't on the receiving end of it, it's unfair? A good song is not just defined by the popularity, you know? Regardless of everything, this song is an amazing song, be it sung by Ed or One Direction. Music is supposed to be appreciated, so can we stop bashing people and just feel the love, which is the intended effect of this song?

Ed is amazing for writing this. I'm so happy that there is a man who doesn't write songs about sex or going to the club. His love songs are so sweet and meaningful, that makes all of is swoon. He likes a girl for who she is and not because she's "thicc" (I don't get why people spell it that way) or because she's like a Kardashian, he loves them for them. I want an Ed!!!!

Please guys there is no point on comparing One Direction to Ed Sheeran. One Direction are a band and Ed is a solo artist. Ed wrote this song and that's why he sang it with more passion. But don't forget that most Directioners(as me) are teenagers full of insecures that needed this song. I'm a directioner and a huge fan of Ed ,such as you I hope, and I love this song endlessly.

People need to understand this: Ed Sheeran sings this song BEAUTIFULLY. One Direction did too. They sing it differently. We will NEVER know his motives for giving this song to them. We can only assume it was because their friends, yes, but he also knew that they could do it WELL. I highly doubt that he would have given it to them if he didn't think they'd do the song justice.
