I love how when they start the song a single girl recognizes it first and just screams

That single girl happens to be my Aunt... I was 18 and it was her first Glasto. She fully headbanged to the guitar solo drop!

Nothing beats the original of course, but Florence's haunting vocals really put a different spin on the song. Really enjoyed that, but I am big Florence & the Machine fan as well.

Instead of trying to be Stevie, she sung it her style. Too many people make the mistake of covering a song and trying to sound like the orriginal.

Florence was inspired by Fleetwood Mac, she loved this tune, you can almost imagine her head banging to this in her room as a child, the passion for the song she shows in this performance is amazing, of course its not the original but its a great individual take, delivered with a powerful live performance.

What makes the original the epic piece that it is was the fact that Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham are able to harmonize so well together. That's what made them start making music together. I feel like that's what this lacking...there was no other voice for her to harmonize with, so it just didn't have the same feel. It sort of felt...empty. I do like her take on "running on the shadows" on the end.
@michellehenneman60477 жыл бұрын
i think it is more the band... the original was also magic because of Mick's drumming... and this drummer is no Mick Fleetwood. kind of makes the accompaniment sloppy. but hard shoes to fill!

not being funny but if you've ever listened to Florence before you know this is her style of singing, and i'd be more disappointed if it sounded exactly like the original because the point of a cover is to put your own twist on it. Chill out a bit and let musicians pay tribute to other musicians however they wish to do so, and by the way i'm far far far more a fleetwood mac fan than a florence one
@sarahbrown273910 жыл бұрын

i bet if fleetwood mac came out now and say it was a good cover, the majority of you would change your tune. florence's voice is raw and majestic. it would be boring if she did exactly the same at the original. after all, that is the point of A COVER. to give their own twist and turn to it. otherwise it would seem redundant. so just fuck up about how you are disappointed with this cover because it's not the meant to be the exact same as the original.
@Pssyche6669 жыл бұрын
I must agree with you about bringing your own slant to an established popular song. However, I can't stand Fleetwood Mac so their opinion means nothing to me and couldn't sway mine one way or the other.. But I do know shit when I hear it.

In deference to The mac fans I have listened to both versions many times. I am pretty sure Florence Welch has a great admiration for Stevie nicks, she has said as much publicly. In the studio version of this song and even the best live version, Stevie Nick's vocals pale in comparison to what is offered here. In the Fleetwood mac version Stevie sing nearly the entire song as a duet, or strongly supported by back up singers. There original version is much more folksy, with a bit of a country twang. Floerence's versions exhibits no such folk inhibitions and moves the ballad into a more powerful and dynamic realm. The drums are excellent in offering a forward moving tension, and the base lines are exciting an powerful. In any cover there is a relationship with the original version, rarely have I heard an artist so completely reintroduce a song and give it such a powerful and unique stamp. I have listened to a few covers Florence and the Machine have done that are lacking, this is not one of them.

Lee Rylee Luminous gallery The really amazing part of the Fleetwood Mac original is hearing the depth of hatred and love and lust bubbling beneath the words. Imagine singing this song in the same room as two former lovers! I still think that the FM version is better, but Florence makes this song her own.

They totally captured the spirit of the song in the music and Florence's performance. Who care's if she isn't Stevie Nicks??? The song was made to be danced to and Florence put everything into it which is the point. It's great that the current artists recognize great artists and songs from the past. That being said, it's never going to be easy to cover a band like Fleetwood Mac. So I give credit to the original and to Florence & The Machine for giving a classic song a new twist. She's got to earn respect for taking a shot at such a revered and classic song. Good for her. Good for Fleetwood Mac.
