And ironically, the MPAA never copyrighted/trademarked the X rating. And a lot of now R-rated films received the X rating like Midnight Cowboy and A Clockwork Orange. The NC-17 rating was supposed to take away the stigma of the dreaded X. Unfortunately, most theater chains still won't run NC-17 rated films.

Without a doubt, the best quality version I've seen yet!

The "M" rating was changed b/c some moviegoers were unsure if more adult content was found in films rated M or R (likely due to an earlier stopgap designation of SMA, or "Suggested for Mature Audiences" used by the MPAA for a couple of years before the rating system was established)...it was first changed to GP (for "General adiences, Parental guidance suggested"), then to the current PG in 1972.

G and R have been existing for quite a while now.
