A respective nod to the great Charles Earland. Thank you, Joey DeFrancesco for doing your part to help tame mankind with your gift and talent. May GOD bless your legacy and surviving family. In the meantime, I'll keep the music playing.

Man, this reminds me when I was visiting some friends in Harlem in the late 60's and hanging out in a jazz club in the middle of the day. There was a guy playing the B3 who was really good. The Mighty Burner (Charles Earland) happened to drop in and the owner persuaded him to climb up on the monster (B3). Earland played so much organ that he had us standing on our feet emoting sounds from our bodies, It was unbelievable for one man to be able to play that much music. It was a day of music that I will remember as long as I live! More Today Than Yesterday was one of the Mighty Burner's signature tunes. Joey has learned his lessons well.

Hugging Joey Di Francesco and telling the gratitude I owe him for as much and as often his talent and his enthusiasm have lifted my battered soul, is in my bucket list.

Yeah, what can I say other than you cat's been to heaven and back to tell us how sweet it is and Joey, that solo you played was so tasty I had to check and see if Jesus was in the house, so keep swinging soulfully and every now and then look up to the heavens baby boy, and you just might see the Angels cheering you on. Much love for you little brother!

One of my most favorite clips of Joey .. which is actually part 1 of two clips .. part 1, as you see here gets truncated near the end of the number .. part 2 continues with a fantastic climactic finish with the drummer playing like it was the gig of his life .. Joe then asks for a "church beat" and they go into a fantastic gospel number .. Both clips were available for quite some time but then deleted .. Great to have part 1 back .. but part 2 would complete the set ..

If you like this, check out the Charles Earland version. Very similar. Makes you wonder if it was one of Joey's personal influences for the tune.
