In technical terms [during this game]both players shared the same quality, and the same rhythm, but Lin Dan was more capable of reading the game well and Lee Chong Wei failed to capitalize on this, for example, there was a time when he got the chance to make a smash, but he didn't do it and instead he made either drop-shot or lob-shot and this gave Lin Dan the chance to recover and covering back his court and thus, gained control of the game. So, I would say that Lee Chong Wei is very weak in the tactical game: strategy!. In badminton terms, you have to minimize the opponent from making the attack, and to do this you have to lower the shuttle as lower as possible to do this you also have to master the skill of net play. Lee Chong Wei's net play is not bad; his technique [if not better than Lin Dan but is at par with Lin Dan's technical skill]; his defense is superb; his court coverage is fantastic; his stamina is incredibly magnificent. The only weakness of Lee Chong Wei which is so obvious is his backhand. That is why when an opponent attacks his backhand, Lee Chong Wei often sends the shuttle high to the base-line and this makes his opponent make smashes or send the shuttle wherever they like or manage the shuttle to an angle that is out of reach by Lee Chong Wei. Lee Chong Wei's greatest mistake was that he always forgot when to attack when it was the time to attack and he forgot to minimize Lin Dan's attacking attitude by feeding Lin Dan a "HIGH shuttle" for Lin Dan to make a few smashes and this made Lee Chong Wei defenseless. Just look at Lin Dan, he always sent the shuttle lower [you can see this when Lin Dan was down 16:20]or otherwise, he made drop shots or even made over-head smashes and he did this for his opponent to be in a destabilized position; and the most important thing, his opponent[Lee Chong Wei]not able to attack or couldn't "manage" the shuttle according to what he wanted during the shuttle is still on the air, another word, weaken Lee Chong Wei's strategy. Compared to Lee Chong Wei[when he was ahead of Lin Dan at a point: 20/16], Lee Chong Wei often made drop-shots while in fact, he had the chance to attack or make smashes and gain back the momentum of the game. Apart from this Lee Chong Wei was at par with Lin Dan in any situation of the game. This is Lee Chong Wei's weakness, he is so patient that patience 'eats' him back. When you are leading 20/16, what for that patience is. You have to attack and force the other opponent to make mistakes. Lin Dan also won over Lee Chong is also about motivation. That is why I earlier said about psychology. You can see this when Lin Dan is playing against other opponents. Lin Dan normally played better against Lee Chong Wei than when he was playing against another weaker opponent. Do you know why? Because Lin Dan knows Lee Chong Wei's game better while Lee Chong Wei, after so many years of encounters with Lin Dan, is still struggling to identify Lin Dan's weak point. Any player who wants to excel in the world arena must possess both the playing skills [technical aspects]and the thinking skills[strategy or tactical aspects]. Because any game[be it badminton or football, etc]is a whole-person paradigm!!!.

I hate to admit it, but Lin Dan creates more pressure on his shot-making then Lee Chong Wei in his overall game. Lin Dan is very deceptive on every shot, and once again he's shown that he's the mentally tougher player during crunch time. Being 16-20 down and still going away with it, that's rough for Lee Chong Wei. Well deserved win by Lin Dan.

Watching this game makes it obvious one of the reasons why Lin Dan keeps winning the big matches - he can smash and get points at will, but Lee Chong Wei simply can't. I think a large part of this is Lee Chong Wei plays much more timidly and second guesses himself when playing Lin Dan. I don't see any other player on the circuit being able to do that. There are so many crucial points where Lee Chong Wei does a shallow lift where Lin Dan simply pounces on it and ends it. I personally think Lee Chong Wei is the better overall player in the later stage of their careers (just see their head to head records against the new upcoming top players), but whenever he plays Lin Dan he loses his edge, tactically and mentally.

It's been so long since I last saw him playing in such superior offensive skills...Pity LCW, despite having one bad line called by Umpire that awarded him extra one point, and led with 4 match points, yet still lost the first game. 16-20, Lin Dan chased all the way up to 22-20. LD can still put away 1 shot winners on LCW when that is really a rarity the other way around. All LDs shots look the same too and it has been commented on that sitting court-side you have NO idea where he's gonna hit it, and he can play it ANYWHERE. LCW may have the same effect also but i think LD is still better at giving himself a little more time between shots than his opponent and therefore is harder to read. He's also left handed which I know is a PITA for righties :D

Lin dan is taller and stronger .... his smashes are harder, he has better wingspan so he has to move very little,his height creates better dropshots,which LCW has more difficulty in reaching and return becomes weak. Both players are equal or LCW pound for pound may be better , But lin dan is truely the better player here due to a physical advantage.
