They never knee they would make a foot sprint in history and from thousands of people they will always be remembered as soldiers not matter their skin color or religion they did a great job and they showed that everybody is a human

"The extraordinary valor of the 369th earned them fame in Europe and America. Newspapers headlined the feats of Corporal Henry Johnson and Private Needham Roberts. In May 1918 they were defending an isolated lookout post on the Western Front, when they were attacked by a German unit. Though wounded, they refused to surrender, fighting on with whatever weapons were at hand. They were the first Americans awarded the Croix de Guerre, and they were not the only Harlem Hellfighters to win awards; 171 of its officers and men received individual medals and the unit received a Croix de Guerre for taking Sechault." John, You should do your research before making unfounded comments like that. Do you know what unit your Grandad served in during WWI? If you are interested in the history of the 93rd Infantry Division please go to our WWI re-enactors website www.ebonydoughboys.org .

My grandad was drafted in 1917 here in Va., Camp Lee then fought in France, came home 1919 ,returned to his job as a conductor on Southern Railroad. By the way, I'm of African/ Irish Extraction, the conductor was Irish. Many people of various races were fighting for America then and since despite the micro brained bigots of their day. I enlisted in the USMC in 1984 in their memories. Gob bless the descendents and the veterans that rest.

michael preston I'd leg tackle my boys to the ground if they were headed to the nearest recruiter. Most of these wars, since Vietnam, have weakened this country.
