Normally they do not, but they know it was me and it is part of my permit that I am allowed to "perform" for the crowd. People love it, it brings them to the Pier, and it's "different". Dave

The one in the video is a Revolution 1.5 SLE. Bought one several months ago and the fun factor, once you get the gist of it, is absolutely off the scale.

Awesome kite. The pilot is doing an excellent job of flying this thing. After I learn on a basic stunt kite I would definitely like to get one of these.
@daves39199 жыл бұрын
Hey Gang, Just to answer some of the questions that have been asked. First, that is actually a VERY OLD model, a 1.5M, the M stood for Mylar. If you look closely, it has a Mylar panel. Since the video was shot, we had SO MANY requests for that color, we had Revolution make it as an exclusive color for The Kite Connection. The bridle is the same bridle material that has always been used, just a different color, they varied the colors based on availability. It is a Spectra Cored Dacron. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. What's funny is that if you also look closely, the sail is separated from the leading edge in about 5 places, but it stills flies great. I finally retired it about 6 months ago and it's now in my garage. I'm honored that this footage has more views than any Rev footage on youtube! Thank you all very much. If you are ever in Huntington Beach, please stop by, I'll be happy to give you a free lesson! Best, Dave The Kite Connection

ottyflyer1 My SLE is also but I'll be sewing it this evening. It's an easy zig zag stitch. Use masking tape to hold the edges together and then sew over the tape and just tear the tape away, vent panel is attached to the leading edge almost like it came form the manufactures dock! My old sewing machine can handle this job easily!

The original Rev I and Rev II (three sticks) had a full-length mesh vent just behind the leading edge spar. But the modern Revs use a nylon fiber-reinforced clear panel material that's not a vent. It looks like a vent, but it's not.

Hi Is it possible to make this kite ,?or do you have to buy it ready made.Frank
@georgepurdy64939 жыл бұрын
Frank Holmes Yes. Plans can be found. search "revolution type kite plans" but be able to sew and have a heat knife to cut the nylon unless you are real god with scissors! . Easier to buy first before building one of these as the rods are costly and you have to order them on line unless you have a fiberglass company that makes them close by! Wood doweling can't handle the stresses put on these kites in a good wind.
@melvyn34269 жыл бұрын
Thanks George It sounds a bit beyond my capabilities,but thanks all the same
@georgepurdy64939 жыл бұрын
Frank Holmes Go to Ebay or Amazon and look for stunt kites and get a cheap Rev type before building or buying the better ones as all that time or money and one bad crash makes cheap the tool for learning! LOL! Quad foils can help a little but they don't play as well as strutted kites do. I AM looking on how to turn a smaller or less than 2 m foil into a quad as medical problems and a skinny arse and an over 2m anything and I become the weight holding the air in the kite that's dragging a human all over the field! I can't do a board due to brain surgery YET! Working on that as I am not ready to quit! LOL! But have fun! Blue Sky's and Safe Journeys

@@daves3919 I suppose a highly skilled professional motorcyclist doing wheelies on a highway that was pulled over by police can express the same sentiment ? +bradley duckett "Drones" ARE safe. It's stupid "pilots" that are dangerous!
@bradleyduckett73308 жыл бұрын
+Richard Darlington I like how you put drones and pilots in quotes. I've done the exact same thing before. "Drones" doesn't only mean a quadcopter. And real pilots fly real aircraft. I'm a quadcopter based aerial photography platform operator! Get it right people. ;-p. haha.
@richarddarlington11398 жыл бұрын
+bradley duckett Yeah. Isn't punctuation wonderful? I've been building and flying R/C planes since the late '70's. Love it to death! I do have one quad copter, a Blade Nano. I don't fly it much, though. It's just not the same as flying fixed-wing aircraft. Quads do make for a great camera platform, though. I've seen some wonderful footage here on You Tube. Have you posted anything? Thanks for the reply. Peace always...
@bradleyduckett73308 жыл бұрын
+Richard Darlington I have not posted anything yet. Right now I'm in between quadcopters. My Blade 350 qx3 lost a (brand new) prop at about 100' up over pavement. Too many parts were damaged to justify it. I was flying in one of the crazy modes, but it was well within the capabilities of the machine. Broke my heart. The default modes are a bit boring for people who've cut their teeth on planes. In the next couple of weeks I'm going to upgrade to the chroma 4k. Going all out (well kind of lol) The GPS quads are a blast. So are the little micros. I don't have any great footage uploaded since I didn't have a gimbal. I do have a video that was decent. I need to upload it to YT. I do have a "hangar" full of brand new planes that I inherited including a beeeaaautiful Curtis Jenny. Have a great one man. Glad to see there are some other responsible "pilots" out there. ;-p
@DougHinVA8 жыл бұрын
I can fly one that well (with the smaller version) and that guy is taking too much risk. A spar can let go and you suddenly have a person punctured by flying polymer rod. You should never get close to people in case a line breaks or a part of the kite fails.
@daves39197 жыл бұрын
I have never had anything let go or break while entertaining people. I inspect my equipment religiously, and always fly in winds well below max for the line strength and spars used. I've flown professionally for decades, and have never had an incident.

Ever heard of kite safety? Your not setting a good example. I don't think flying into unsuspecting peoples faces is cool, more stupid than anything. There's always a chance of accident no matter how good a flyer pilot you think you are.
@daves39197 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment. I have been flying professionally for 30 years, nobody was ever in danger, I was in constant contact with everyone, I have full insurance, etc. Yes, there is always a chance of an accident, just like when you ride a bike near the public, play football on the beach, etc. Again, thank you for your comments, it's always good to emphasize safety.
@elcajondavid13 жыл бұрын
I use to fly the rev's. They have great control and can stop on a dime even in high wind. I went back to two lines because I could do more tricks with them but there is less control compared to the rev's four lines. I can assure the flyer is not a newbie and no one was in danger with them flying. The rev's are basically a precession kite.
