when i heard it, i immediately had emotions about this. First Contact was honestly my first real dive into Star Trek as a kid and it stuck. So the nostalgia hit hard.

This theme for me really captures the inspirational and hopeful spirit of Star Trek. That we can be better than we are, we have it within us and that we must continue striving to be better as a global civilization.

My favourite Trek film, Jerry only had 3 weeks to write this music and had to employ his son to write half the score, even after all these years this theme is fresh in my mind

What was it with Goldsmith only having limited time to write a score for a movie? I feel I've heard that story a lot.

Almost the same thing happened to Goldsmith with Air Force One. That was around the time First Contact was made too.

@@bryanferratt6598 In this case his scoring on The Ghost and The Darkness ran long which delayed him starting on First Contact so he had his son, Joel, help out. But having limited time wasn't any more prevalent with Goldsmith than with anyone else. Composers were generally given about 10 weeks to write a feature length score. Other times Goldsmith was time crunched was because he was brought in to replace a rejected score (by Randy Newman) such was the case with Air Force One. He had about 3 weeks to do write and record the entire score and had to call in Joel McNeely to score a few scenes in order to get the film done in time. He also replaced a rejected score by Maurice Jarre for The River Wild.

The fact that they used this as Picard Season 3’s theme shows how much Showrunner Terry Matalas, “got” what Star Trek meant and what the fans wanted.

This is the best piece of music that was ever composed for Star Trek (variation: First Contact, from the soundtrack, included). That they managed to include this theme in the end credits for Picard, Season 3, is beautiful. It is my favorite Jerry Goldsmith work. And, my vote is that "First Contact" is the 2nd best Star Trek movie (second only to The Wrath of Khan).

I'm 43 and this particular theme just breaks me down like it's calling me home. I was 16 when this movie came out and the opening theme just blew me away, I was not expecting such beauty and emotion from a new TNG film theme, especially after Generations had more of a triumphant fanfare for a theme. The 90s were the best decade of my life and I always long for a time like that again.

Picard is Star Trek. TNG is the perfect honor to star trek. This show, showed us as one race. One drive. One future. I was a child who watched with wild open eyes. There was only one race. The human race. We reached for the stars together. And I truly believe we'll reach them together. Forget your bias beliefs, forget your personal hatred. I believed the Lord meant for humanity to reach the heavens and above. Humanity as one 🖖
