Turn on gaming mode on the tv to reduce input lag

Same mate. Got a 27" inch 1440p monitor with 165 Hz but it only has HDMI 2.0. Thought I needed 2.1 to unlock 120 Hz, but it worked perfectly fine with 2.0.

2.1 is only for 4K at 120fps. 2.0 can do QHD at 120fps

It’s weird for me. I start off at 1440p 60hz. First I change my fps to 120hz which forces my resolution to change to 1080p. After that, I set my resolution back to 1440p. It gives me the warning that my fps could drop but then nothing changes. I’ve got 1440p at 120hz.

Yeah that will unfortunately be a sacrifice that will be made using an hdmi 2.0 monitor. I honestly don't know how well the HDR would look on a series x, but I am with you, it would be nice to have at 120hz and 1440p.

I've just noticed the same disabling 4k also disables hdr10

I have the odyssey 32" curved g5 which is a 1440p with hdr 600 I believe it is and it let's me run 4k@60hz with hdr but the imput delay is to much. Especially since I'm rocking the mouse N key on the box. 1440 hits the sweet spot.

No, in order to get a pc with the same specs as the series X you will need around $1,800 the series X is still no joke. Why spend thousands on a pc when you can get the specs of a pc on the series X. Good call out. I have had a few comments of monitors that are struggling to get 120Hz. But I would imagine it has more to do with internal settings. Because the bandwidth of HDMI 2.0 will allow 1440p @ 120hz. Although you're right, still some monitors don't allow for it.

You can also buy a usb powered DisplayPort to HMDI adapter. That’s what I did and it worked like a charm.

Yeah unless you are spending about $2k on a PC the performance isn't MASSIVE. Although there are other benefits to PC for sure.

@@BainCustom I wonder if the xbox’s smoothness falls on the game devs optimizing it for the xbox’s dedicated hardware,and the pc versions of the same game may not be as optimized due to hardware configurations being so vast…. Thus pc game optimization may be something in the middle to accommodate all the hardware variations vs the xbox being maximum optimized for its dedicated hardware….

It's a big jump for the casual gamer. I was perfectly happy with my 720p 60hz for years until I bought a computer. Then going back to console was rough. Now console is very playable in comparison. Thanks for the input

@@BainCustom no the MU comes with the connect box..but the NU was built with upgraded gaming features and if I'm not mistaken was the first television to receive the FREESYNC2 update from Samsung. Either way I have two monitors that are very capable and I prefer to play on this television it runs so good with this series x

I can only get 1080p 120hz but not 1440p 120hz only at 60hz on the Sony A8g. I've tried everything and it seems I'll have to use 1080p 120hz.

I bought a 27” 1440p monitor and seriesx. You won’t be able to see any clearer. 4K is absolutely wasted if your on a monitor. I play destiny2 at 1440p 120hz. Rock solid

@@harryleeds8855 yeah you need to disable vrr. Aka Free sync But because destiny2 is a rock solid 120fps in crucible (unlike cod) you don’t need vrr. It’s only crucible that is 120fps. The pve element is only 1440p 60hz. Which is still incredible on my 27 “ gl850. LG Make some amazing screens.

Check your fidelity settings on the Xbox menu. You should be able to change your input to HDMI only and it should then allow you to choose resolution and refresh rate.

Yeah I think that's a really good method. In fact that is what I tend to do myself for higher Fidelity games and switching to first person shooters. Although I mostly game on my PC, it's nice to sit back and relax while gaming casually.

Can you tell what TV do you have?

Get changing your input to HDMI only in the fidelity settings of the video tab on the Xbox. That might work for you.

Yes certain TV's do and it would absolutely help. Auto game mode on TV's is good for that. Unfortunately, my tv does not have that function.

So there is HDMI 2.0 and HDMI 2.1 available on the market today. These consoles utilize HDMI 2.1 but are backwards compatible to a degree. With HDMI 2.0 this video outlines certain capabilities that you will have, but not all capabilities. You should be able to receive 120 Hz at 1440p utilizing HDMI 2.0 if your monitor allows.

That's not true. You can run 120hz at 1440p and I show it in the video. If you had issues then there are additional steps you may need to follow to unlock that capability. I have heard that you have to turn that off, but it wouldn't be on by factory default. So unless you used it on a pc before hand this shouldn't be an issue. Anyways, I hope you didn't return it because you can use it at 1440p 120Hz even while HDR is active. It's one heck of a monitor for the Xbox.

I would go with the one in the video. The LG GN850-B it's not linked in the description because it is only sold at Best Buy at the moment. But I have tested it and confirmed that it will do 120hz @ 1440p with HDR active.

I have the LG 27” GN850 but can’t tell if it is -B well anyways I’m having trouble with setting Cold War to 120hz the damn thing is shown with a Lock on it... Won’t let me get 120hz @ 1440p... @@BainCustom right now mostly halo infinite and forza horizan 5 and its awesome!! Really solid setup, for me personally 2k gaming at 120hz is plenty good enough for me now after witnessing it first hand playing, it's just really crisp, after a 4 hour session the series x doesn't even really get loud or even that hot and just after a few minutes after quiting the game it seems to cool down really fast, great console and monitor combo, highly recommended, cheers.

It's the LG GN850. I will be testing out more monitors too, but yes this monitor worked for me with no issue.

I don't think the series x has a field of view setting. But I know certain games will have it. I didn't see it anywhere else besides on the setup for setting the edge of the picture.

Have you tried turning off motion flow? Also go to settings, display and sound, Audio Output, & disable Sound Mode Sync. This really helped with the input lag on my Sony A8H.

@@henriw7965 Response time is about 1ms but input lag in game mode varies between 6-14ms. Regardless, aside possible burn in and limited to 48 in my opinion is the best screen for gaming

Also you have to play with the response time settings off normal fast or faster. I play AC Valhalla and Black ops Cold War on fast but Modern Warfare it seems I have to play on normal and it still seems choppy a lil.

O yeah. Good choice, I reserved one a while back but ended up holding out for when HDMI 2.1 monitors come in. But the 900H is a nice display for Xbox or ps5.

@@DETERMINOLOGY if on a budget the Q70T is pretty good at 900. I have a Q70T / Q80T / CX and X900. Between the 2 Samsung’s I find the Q70 looks better on video games for whatever reason but movies look a little better on the Q80. It’s all personal preference tho I had friends try it out on each TV to see which looked best w ps5 and Xbox and people were pretty split between all of them. I’d prob go with the CX if you plan to get both an Xbox and Ps5 tho

Benq actually has instruction on their website in the description of this monitor. You need to change the video output of the Xbox to hdmi only. It can be found in the fidelity settings. This has worked for me on other displays too.

That is the case for playstation and most console exclusive games. I would imagine that will change for sony once they fully incorporate the steam partnership. But with cross platform games and games that are also developed for pc they are already optimized for 1440p 120hz. I have a suspicion that with the growing popularity for xbox that devs will start to incorporate it early in development. But you are right, there are only a handful of games that fully support 1440p right now.

It should be for sure. MS is now behind the ball. Give it a few months and it will come out.

What TV/Monitor are you using and what is plugged into HDMI 1 & 2? It could be a number of reasons, but I would need to know all of the components and settings.

Unfortunately right now it's very hard to recommend 4K monitors with new models coming right around the corner. I do have a video coming out this next week with a new monitor and I tested on the xbox. It is a 1440p monitor. I do plan on doing HDMI 2.1 4K monitors when they come out.

Hey thanks for commenting. There's definitely an ongoing debate about displays at the moment. Personally I think the jump to 120hz is probably the largest jump, gaming-wise, that has happened in this generation....so far! Personally I would probably go with something that's 1440p and 144hz.

My opinion is that a 1440p 144hz monitor is better. Yes 4k resolution looks better, but having twice the frames looks awesome. It also depends if you really see a difference from 1440p compared to 4k.

That is the question of the year. Personally I am most interested in either a 1440p 120hz monitor or 4k hdmi 2.1 TV. Basically hdmi 2.1 monitors are looking to be about $1k and up, while 1440p monitors are about $300 for a decent one to start. You can also find TV's for about $600 or so. I just don't think the performance, price and value are their for hdmi 2.1 monitors for consoles.

Well I'm like Sony, Microsoft has given developers access to optimized for 1440p. There are still some drawbacks like you mentioned and the lack of HDR. But overall the higher frame rates over HDMI 2.0 I think outweigh 4K resolutions at 60Hz. I think the upscaling or downscaling will depend more on the display. I know the console plays a big part in that, but 1080p looks phenomenal on my OLED. Realistically it should look terrible, but it doesn't. That is a good question though, I will look into the support of current titles and see if Xbox has any announcements related to more support going forward.

Console generally does. IDK if streaming is much better. It can be mitigated to a degree, just have to get a display that can utilize the ALLM.

For the purpose of this video I am only showcasing that the capability is there. Weather you receive 120 Hertz or not would be a different video. Although I'm not sure how much it would matter unless we discuss variable refresh rate, because it would be the same for pretty much every Xbox series X. Nice call out though. Because that is something to consider.

@@christopherpalines5981 it’s not locked by no means . I fluctuates between 90 and 120 FPS .. digital foundry did a FPS test on their channel if you want to see the benchmarks . Still with freesync enabled , that fixes the frame pacing issues which is awesome for a console .

I actually do want to check it out. It looks decent for a 1440p monitor. It does seem a bit spendy for what it offers, but seems to be fully featured for consoles and PC. I'll see if I can get my hands on one.

Probably 1440p @120hz mostly. I would do 4k for the high fidelity games that are slower paced though.

The #1 thing you need to know is what HDMI version your monitor has. Then you need to know if that monitor has a VESA standard 120hz and not something like 119.6hz. With those two features, you should be able to get 1080p 120hz & 1440p 120hz. So make sure the samsung offers that if yours does not and you are good to go.
