I would suggest same thing as Joan. Mabe at the start/end of the vid (some with and some without water movement) a close up of some corals (mabe just the rarest ones) with soft music. Besides that I think you are all more than ok. Keep the good work

Thank you so much! It was such an awesome day to hang out and enjoy such a beautiful tank! It was CRazy how many obstacles we had to overcome to deliver this video in HDR. Nothing is like seeing the coral in person but HDR really gets you closer to those true colors.

Was waiting patiently for this comment! 😂 I wrote the script before I edited the clips. Debated changing it but figured someone would spot it and make a comment. 😜 He fed his fish a bunch of food which left particles at the top. Great eye Scott!

What camera and lens did you use for this video and also what filters are you using?

This video was shot with a canon c200 and a iphone 12. It was shot in 12 bit raw on c200 and no filters were used except for a short clip with the iphone showing the radion lights. 100 macro zeiss and DZOFilm Pictor 20-55mm cine lens.

this is massive! I was wondering if he makes some kind of feeding or spot feeding the corals, specially the gonis or acans. Nice vid btw, one of the best I've seen in the last couple of months

Tony keeps things really low maintenance and says he just feeds his fish and an occasional broadcast feed. But he doesn’t target feed his corals. My belief is by not doing water changes their is a accumulation of “microscopic food” in the water column. That seems to be keeping the gonis happy. Acans seem to grow fine without target feeding just not as fast in my experience. Since the tank has been running for over 3 years things just keep a steady growth pace. But he also keeps phosphates and nitrates low by growing macro algae. Thanks for the comment👍

This video and knowledge just came into my hands in the perfect time cuz I'm about to get another reef tank (my current tanks are 52 & 13 galons and considering 130 for the new one) and a few days ago I just heard about the Triton method but I was ambivalent about keeping the usual water changes for all tanks or get into another type of maintainance like Triton. Again awesome video... subscribed already lol

The sump is a 40 gallon red sea stock sump. He has a Apex controller, Alkitronic tester, mp40 vortex fans. Im not sure the brand of protein skimmer or carbon reactor, but I’m sure most would suffice. Radion g5 lights, and believe a kessil 380 grow light.

I can relate I’ve been waiting to start my new tank build. Hopefully I can begin after I finish my next video and get through my first semester of collage. Thats good advice in a crunch. Man you never get used to it. Losing coral can be heartbreaking! What types of corals were more affected by the heat in your tank?

Absolutely stunning tank! One suggestion for him though - add more surface water movement because that bio-film at the far side of the a peninsula tank can get nasty quick. Speaking from experience as a peninsula owner myself.

No filters were used in this video. Except the iphone shot of the radion g5 lights and you can see it taken on and off. Most of the shotsare in RAW. Shooting video is ALL about lighting tricks. 😉 Cameras are not as good as eyes yet. Thanks for the advice, Ill keep in mind the over-saturation of certain clips. 👌

In truth , if you filter your water with carbon and a good skimmer you don’t really do anything with water changes. Now that is under the rule that you’re putting in essential elements.

You still need to deal with the phosphates and nitrates in some fashion. But this is very true. There are so many different ways to achieve good results. Thats why are hobby is so fun you can customize what works best for you. Trition is just a brand that offers a great implementation of an all encompassing method.

@@LayneWilson I’ve never had a spike in nitrates or phosphates once the tank was mature. I’ve gone 2 years without water changes. However, a good fuge which I didn’t mention is also key as the macro algae should manage these levels. It’s a balance but the key here is to let the tank mature.

Great tip about tank maturity! 👍 This really is the key to reefing stability. Yes growing macro algae, using algae scrubber, dosing carbon, using media such as phospban are just some different methods that should easily keep nitrates and phosphates from spiking. Like you were saying you dont need to do water changes. As long as you understand how to maintain good water chemistry by adding in the minerals/elements and removing nitrates and phosphates. Pick your poison and enjoy the color.! 😁

Great advice! If you can fit one, it's always a good idea. Many people don't think about it because they keep the temperature of their home controlled with AC all the time. In the event your ac goes out, your tank will thank you.

Yeah, fortunately, where I live in California, the only natural disaster I have to worry about is earthquakes and not really even that as the fault lines are closer to the coast.

Way to enhanced coloration. Even the fish look unnatural with finage colors they don’t have. I’m sure the corals have nice colors but this is way to deliberately enhanced.

Thanks for the advice. Still learning this was my first video shooting in RAW with my new camera. Capturing true color especially when blue light is on is very challenging. Fish always look off. Since corals have multiple “types” of color pigment that reflect the light wavelengths differently. Yet the camera sensor and algorithm treat them the same. Its a balancing act. But imho no camera can replicate what corals really look like for this reason yet. Thats why we own reef tanks to enjoy them in person. Thanks again for the advice ill keep it in mind going forward. 👍
