HDS Carbon - Understanding TotalScan and Sonar Channels 1&2

HDS Carbon from Lowrance comes with two separate sonar channels, as well as two different sonar ports on the back of the unit. The TotalScan transducer is only compatible with the 9-pin "Channel 2" port.

In general, the TI units are faster in response to inputs. This is seen when quickly switching between sonar, downscan, chart, and split screens kzfaq.infoUgkxeAxH15LxhjGlg5-CRYqjTGTEH0tbY4vk recommend The Hook units will show some lag on button pushes and screen switching. The big ticket item though is maps. If you install a mapping card such as Navionics or the free C-Map Genesis which has a lot of map detail, then moving around the map with the cursor or when running down the lake can lag significantly on the Hook units, but is seamless with the TI units.

i start getting 3 dashes on my depth when i get in over 80 feet of water for some reason. i have the hds 9 carbon and it is set on auto depth.. it only happens when i get in deeper water at the lake. trying to figure out if i hit some thing in the settings it used to work right. when i get the three dashes screen is pretty much blank. im using totalscan transducer. if you have any tips i would love try it. thank you and great videos!

Ive got a hds 12 gen 3, how do you go on to this setting? I cant seem to find the channel selection on it.

hello in settings/sonar/what is internal sonar referencing to.should it be on .i have a airmar thruhull b60 connected to back of unit. thanks john

My hds carbon came with a black box that the transducers and the display unit plug into . Wtf ?

I am back again with the same issue. I replaced all ethernet cables, and replaced the Gen 2 touch with a new Carbon 9. The problem continues if the Carbons recognize the master Carbon I am good to go. The problem happens randomly in minutes or hours. It usually will return randomly. You can go to source sometimes all choices are there and sometimes not there. I have some pictures to show the problem.this photo shows all the sources which is good! The next photo shows the missing Carbon9 which is the master unit! Another photo of the missing Master Carbon 9.

Jacob, I have a Lowrance carbon 7 on the deck and it continually asks to accept terms and conditions when turned on? How do I get around this? My HDS 9 on console works right away when it turns on, that's all I want. Thank you

Hi I believe you are refering to the Warning page that must be accepted at power up. THere is no way to disable that at this time. I can't explain why the HDSS9 would not have the same page as all HDS units are supposed to have that screen

no mention in this video about connections with more than one mfd and a 3d module box connecting all transducers to all mfd via ethernet.Is there another video for that? john

Go to 4:30 and listen again as I did a few times ... Jacob said this can be done from any unit and can be viewed from any unit ... At least that is what I got from it ... I will be checking mine when I get home ... I have 2- 12" on the console with a 3D transducer and a 83/200 on the transom and one HDS 12 Gen 3 on the bow with a TotalScan (CH 2) ... All connected via Ethernet cable to the 3D Hub in my center console ... I have a lot to learn to be comfortable switching back and forth and not doubting myself with every change I make ... I'll be book marking this video to watch more ... Jeff ... 240 LTS ... .

So which transducer performs best on the HDS Carbon 9? I have an active 3 in 1 and a total scan I can use. I upgraded to the Carbon 9 from an Elite 9Ti and was very happy with the performance of the total scan hooked up to it.

Definitely the AI 3in1 transducer, which is compatible with your HDS Carbon.

@@lowrance when you turn on the unit without it being in water is it true it can damage the transducer?
