I started guitar last November and I was between a Squier Paranormal series Tele and the Epiphone SG worn satin. I chose the Paranormal and while the body and neck were gorgeous, I needed to have the frets leveled. Then I decided to swap the pickups but then the switch failed so I replaced the electronics. The guitar is now a beast and I've learned enough technique to enjoy it clean or dirty. But during my time with the Squier I also bought a used version of that Epiphone for 300 bucks on Reverb. It has needed nothing but some cleaning and polishing and some new strings. The stock p90s sound phenomenal, they're plenty touch responsive to help learn about playing dynamically, and I've had no issues with the electronics. I don't regret the Squier at all, but that Epiphone is a killer bargin new or used if you fancy the SG shape.

I've purchased 3 so-called budget brands and 4 more well established brand guitars. The budget guitars I've purchased were Harley Benton (from Thomann) and Glarry and Westcreek (both from Amazon) The more well established brands I've purchased are 2 Epiphones, Ibanez, and PRS. I still have the 4 established brand guitars and as for the budget guitars.... I sold the Harley Benton and Glarry, and returned the Westcreek back to Amazon. The budget guitar were...ok...but that's it. Just ok. They were guitars...they worked, but they felt cheap and they weren't anywhere near as good quality of well established brands. Do yourself a favour. Save a bit more money and buy a known brand with a solid history and reputation. You won't regret it.

The message I take away is teach your kid how to find good values at pawn shops and local used bargain basement/needs TLC (one music shop here has a big rubbermaid trash can by the door ala umbrella stand that has 50-75 buck charity cases that need excessive TLC but could be built up to functional).

I purchased a Donner DST 152R from Amazon & it was pretty slick then, a les paul looking guitar caught my eye so I purchased a 39 inch Bullfighter SB series ms-lp (red) it is phenomenal. I love it! I've already purchased a hardshell case for it. However, I am seeing Bullstar, Bullfighter & censtar in descriptions of their other models. I want to try a few more of their models. I grew up on a 86 Westone spectrum LX 198mbk.

I've been very satisfied with the Harley Benton guitars I've purchased... A p90 SG Jr and a JA60 Anniversary edition Jazzmaster guitar. Well set-up, right out of the box. My only complaint is how much shipping is from Germany to the States.

Landon, look at the address label: if it says Amazon chances are it did got mail from them, but unlikely they send it this way. The warehouse I work for we ship directly to customers and our packaging is horrible boxes twice the size of the product 😂😂 I have seen this guitar only in that trapezoid box shipped

That was my very 1st guitar, but in black. I got the beginner’s kit with the awful amp. The only good thing is that I had to learn how to deal with fret sprout, polish the frets, condition the fretboard, replace saddles and do the whole setup by myself. I think I paid 140 bucks for the whole thing plus around 100 bucks in parts. I sold it (in a very good playable condition) a few months after purchasing it.

Might be good enough as a back-up guitar to bring to a gig, or as a beater to bring to an open mic where you sit drinking in the crowd for three hours so you can play for 15 minutes or so. You won't mind so much if it gets bumped around or has beer spilled on it. I got an Ibanez Gio Super Strat style for $200 from Amazon and it's a solid well-made instrument that is as nice as one could possibly expect for that price.

Take it camping, it'll be nice for fire word.

39” is 0.37 inches shy of a full meter. A Strat is 38 & 15/16ths long.

The Guitar was better than the video. Didn't even stretch the strings before hitting the whammy.

tuning will be an issue till the strings are stretched some like any new strings. and I got a used Starcaster Strat at my local Music-Go-Round for under $100 and a blackstar ID Core stereo 40 V-1 for the same at the same place both are good as they can be for what they are. I like to get my gear as reasonable price as i can. I bought the guitar to do an extreme mod upgrading or replacing electronics and hardware to my design. locking tuners, roller string tree as well as roller saddles and replaced the pot metal trem block with a full size solid brass trem block and a titanium nut. wired it like a 50's Les Paul with coil splits and the 500K Ohm vol. pots as are the tone pots but the bridge tone pot also a P/P to activate the bridge and neck P/U's together regardless of the 5-way sw. pos. so many tonal variations I didn't bother to even try to count them with all the switches and pots and ciol splitting. plus the onboard effects in the amp to choose from. Sound like fun? well it is and the guitar plays and looks great as well. Oh did i mention the custom rattle can and airbrushed paint scheme stars and planets motif with micro glotter scattered loghtly for the satrry sparkle effect on a black and dark blue base and semi gloss clear coat finish. the custom hand made brushed stainless steel pick guard loaded with the 3 quad rail humbuckers, chrome knobs and switch tip really sets the whole thing off well. Oh, did i mention that this is my very first ever guitar build/mod. yep I like to just go for it to get what I want.. the next will be an Esquire with original wiring scheme and the "ash tray cover they came with from the start. I got a Tele bridge P/U from Dylan, of 'Dylan Talks Tone' you tube channel he makes and sells boutique guitar pick ups. this one was part of an experiment with another pick up maker usins all the same parts and winder but made by the two builders as close as they could but with all things trying to be equal the two still sounded slightly different i got the one Dylan made in a spur of the moment give-away.. lucky me just what i need for my esquire build. then perhaps a SG and then a Les Paul Jr double cut. for fun. I want to literally build my guitar collection myself. one cool guitar at a time the way i want them.

Don’t really understand why people want you to play through a cheap amp. A Fender Masterbuilt Custom Shop would sound bad through a cheap amp. Maybe you should also show the guitar with the camera out of focus too … 😂 A good amp shows what the guitar is capable of … ESPECIALLY if it’s a cheap guitar.

Landon, suffering with bad gear so we don't have to. Not sure saving money on guitars is worth it. If a guitar doesn't feel good it will kill any beginner enthusiasm given all the effort early learning requires. Find a buddy who has guitars, or you can even rent some places. Long and McQuade rents a Squier Classic Vibe for $35/wk or an Epiphone LP Studio for $43/wk, these are $500CAD models in Canada and I'd say a bare minimum price range for a beginner. If online is the only way you can find a guitar, I'd watch hundreds of youtubes (I'm masochistic that way) for the gear you think you might want to see different players skill levels and the gear quality. Gives you a rough idea before you jump in. But trying one in the hands is the best way.

FINALLY an honest review after so much hype about how these cheap guitars are "better than __________" It would seem to follow that if you order an ultra-cheap guitar, it's going to be, well, really cheap in every sense of the word. Hey, I'd love to get a real Strat or Les Paul for $150, but if I think that's going to happen I've got ( to borrow a phrase ) "another think comin;." Yeah, I also showed this video to my wife and she said, "listen to this guy and stop being stupid." I'm pretty sure she got on my laptop and subscribed too.

I like having choices and toys.. yes I have strats Mexican and American made, 1 Gibson SG and a few Squires including the Jaguars contemporary.. some axes need work but that can also be fun.. The joke about ethics in the intro is funny because I know there is a large portion of people who push back on trying to be more ethical because we're hypocrites for cutting out certain brands or products, but not all of them that do the same thing. The truth is, we're in a late stage of capitalism and there is no way to only support ethical companies as a regular person, you'd bankrupt yourself and/or make your life really difficult. That doesn't mean you shouldn't try to do better though. If everyone picked a few things to improve on, the markets would shift dramatically. For example, something I try to avoid is buying new, cheap, import clothing. I instead buy ethically made clothing, domestically made clothing, environmentally conscious clothing, they usually go hand-in-hand. Muttonhead is a great brand. All clothes are sewn in Toronto or New York, they have some clothes with recycled or alternative materials, the workers I would assume are paid well, and since the clothes are made just down the road, they have a shorter distance to travel to get to me which lowers it's impact on the environment. Either that or I buy used clothing from thrift stores or private sellers. Now, imagine if 5 million of Canada's 35 million people stopped buying fast fashion. The clothing companies would lose their minds. We're already seeing a shift with some brands offering used options of their own clothes online. The North Face Renewed is The North Face's refurbished website, for example. I know this is a random rant, but really, think about making a few changes that you can reasonably achieve. If you're not into the hot budget guitar brand of the month because they're mediocre instruments and made unethically, then don't buy them. Instead, save up your money and buy from a small domestic builder and support good jobs that puts money back into your own economy. I also try to avoid Amazon, I'm a pro wrestling and pro Rocket League fan but I will not watch events that take place in Saudi Arabia, and I've been using filtered water bottles since 2017 instead of buying pre-packaged water in single use bottles which saves me from throwing out over 1000 plastic bottles every year. There could be more but that's off the top of my head. Do what works for you.

I never understood the argument of “our cellphones are made in china”. The point is for people who care about that, not to buy where possible from china. Phones are almost exclusively china. Guitars however are made everywhere. Some with Chinese parts yes. But again the point is with less chinese parts. For those who care anyway. Now, smack it!!!
