Just to give you guys a heads up. In the next film "The Prisoner of Azkaban", there will be a different actor playing Professor Dumbledore. Richard Harris, who played Dumbledore in the first two films, passed away from Hodgkins Disease in 2002. Such a great actor. He was 72 yrs old.

The exchange at the end between Lucius Malfoy and Harry Potter was completely improvised. Jason Isaacs, who played Lucius, decided that there was no way Lucius would leave without trying to get the last word in, so as he was walking out, he paused and just came up with the line, "Let us hope Harry Potter will always be around to save the day." And without hesitation Daniel Radcliffe, playing Harry, stepped right up to Isaacs and said, "Don't worry, he will be." Talking about it later, Jason Isaacs said it was one of the best interchanges he'd ever been in as an actor, and it was coming from a 12 year old kid with maybe a third of his acting experience.

Just so you guys know the Harry Potter movies get darker and darker as Harry gets older. He's 12 years old here. Harry is 13 years old in the third movie so you are entering his teenage age Years next. 14 years old in the 4th movie, 15 years old in the 5th movie, and so on and so forth. Every movie he's atleast one year older. So excited for your future Harry Potter reactions !! I thoroughly enjoyed this.

Yes, it is kind of under-rated in the movie series, sadly. If only Chris Columbus could have squeezed in more details from the book, like Sir Nicholas' Deathday Party, the trolls hassling Harry on Valentines Day, and put in the same level of terror and gore from Harry's fight with the Basilisk, it would have made the movie even better! In the book, by the end of Harry's face-off with the Basilisk, he's pretty much covered in mud and blood. The spiders in the Dark Forest scene was scarier in the book, too.

One thing I try to keep in mind watching these movies is that, according to the books, Ron is fiercely brave and loyal to Harry (not a wuss like in the movies), Hermoine is smart and great at magic but gets really scared in scary events, and Harry is pretty much the same as he is in the movies. When Amber saw the first movie, she mentioned that the umbrella Hagrid carried, looked like it was his wand. Well, in this movie, it explains why his wand is disguised as an umbrella. When Tom Riddle accused, and got Hagrid in trouble for supposedly setting the spider to kill someone, he was no longer allowed to use a wand. But when he was found innocent, they found a way for him to have a wand, by disguising it as an umbrella.

Lucius Malfoy didn't open the chamber as that was way before his time. As told in this film, the Chamber was first opened 50 years prior in 1942. Lucius started Hogwarts over 20 years after those events, around 1965 or 1966. He is about 10 years older than Harry's dad, who started at Hogwarts in 1971. When Lucius shows up at Hagrid's hut, he has an order of suspension signed by the school board leaders. Lucius just had Dumbledore removed from office, but he doesn't take over as Headmaster of Hogwarts. He is a sitting board member & convinced the others to sign the paper. Lucius actually works at the Ministry Of Magic, same place as Ron's dad, Arthur.

One of my favorite parts of this movie is near the end when Lucious Malfoy (played by Jason Isaacs, who was also the Antagonist of The Patriot, among other roles) turns to Harry and says "Let us hope that Mr. Potter will always be around to save the day", as that line was 100% improvised, intended to be ominous and get a natural reaction from Daniel Radcliffe, but *like a boss* Dan responds "Don't worry... So glad to see another Harry Potter reaction. This series is so well done. Keep in mind that Harry grew up with the Dursley’s so he’s learned from an early age not to confide in or trust adults. He had to be self reliant while in their home. It’s not mentioned in the movies but the books explain that Harry had to live with the Dursleys for his own protection. Voldemort’s followers were angry that he lost his powers & vanished after his failed attack on baby Harry. Some believed killing Harry would restore Voldemort so Dumbledore placed a protective enchantment on Harry that requires him to live with a blood relative of his mother, Lily. Lily willingly died to save her son. Voldemort was going to spare her but she refused to abandon her baby to be killed. The blood bond between Petunia, Lily & Harry gives the protective enchantment it’s power & it stays in place as long as Harry’s “home” is with his aunt. That’s why Harry has to return to Privet Drive every summer, if only for a couple of weeks. As Dumbledore tells Harry in the books “As long as you can call home the place where your mother’s blood dwells, there you can not be harmed”. That’s why Harry had to go to his aunt when he was orphaned. His aunt Petunia knows about the protective enchantment. Dumbledore explained in the letter he left with baby Harry. That’s why she took him into her home. She knows that by allowing him to live with her & her family she is keeping him alive.

I always wonder why they changed it in the movie to “hear” instead of “smell”. Snakes don’t hear like humans because they lack external ears. Just another way the movies lack when compared to the books and for such a tiny point, too.

Not sure if anyone has already commented on the issue with house elves. They are magical creatures, very powerful & in some ways more powerful than wizards & witches. That's why they are subjected to being controlled in servitude to the (magical) humans. They don't need wands to help channel/focus their magic, they can apparate (teleport) within Hogwarts which is forbidden to all except Dumbledore, as well as apparate in & out of any magical area where protection charms (safety shields) are in place. There is a lot more history & info on elves in the novels. There was some controversy over having the elves in the films because the issue of "house elves" is basically modern day slavery taking place in the wizarding world. The house elf is bound to one family to act as nothing more than a servant to clean, cook, wash clothes, & to do whatever their "masters" command of them. The servitude to one family is generational, elves get passed down to the next head of family. For example if Doby had remained enslaved, he would eventually be inherited by Draco, handed down by Lucius. Doby isn't the only elf we meet in the novels, that were left out of the films for various reasons.

You have the explanation in and of itself regarding how some people just inexplicably think they are better than others and try to hurt others over it. You have Hermione portraying the pain of being called a slur to perfection. You have Hagrid being the perfect comforting presence. "Don't you think on it for one minute." And you have Ron burping up slugs into a bucket so the kids watchingat home can go "ewwww!!!!" before maybe they get too deep into their feelings over the concept they're learning about. And there is a future professor in the later films who resembles what real universities used to do and still do to this day is collect students and bring them together and help them stay connected and make connections with others to help further their goals and encourages collaborations with as many people as possible. There is a video with the Weasley twins doing a interview with a girl who went to the same school as them as it turns out and they had a house system too. React to that after the films are finished. SO much to love, Rowling is queen goat for red herrings, details are very important, so, Prisoner of Azkaban was the hardest to read for me, just because of so many new names, and characters, but so so fun and scarey. The last scene with dobby has some intensely important foreshadowing, no spoilers 😎 Are you shocked by how much you love it yet? It only gets darker and better from here 🥰

It's really great to see you both watching these films for the first time, and getting the details and wonder of it all. There are so many layers to them, and as the story goes on through the films, you'll be blown away. If you are ever in UK you need to visit Warner Bros studios in Leavesden, nr London, where they were filmed. You get to see a lot of the secrets to how things were done. The films are like a whos who of British acting royalty. Enjoy the rest guys.

Oh my, thank you, thank you for not making us wait for long at all for the next one. Much more fun when they’re close together like this. Thanks again for all that you do. Just know that what you do is very important to a lot of people. Thanks, again.
