It's curious that you mention the fact that they made fun of their hair. I particularly believe that in the 70s and 80s there was plenty of talent in singers and musicians, each band had talent in their singers with incredible voices, drummers, guitarists, bassists, etc. and they played and put together beautiful melodies and the people of that time had so much talent for listening that it was normal to hear voices like that of Michael Bolton and they even had the nerve to make fun of something as simple as his hair without taking into account the voice that this man had like that. It also happened with the Bee Gees, they made fun of their way of singing and they never realized that they were listening to the best male group ever created sing, they had unique harmonies and Barry had the best falsetto in musical history. The 3 brothers were and will be insurmountable and the Today's generation does not have that privilege of hearing as many good voices as they did back then when listening to Michael Bolton sing, most would explode when they heard that voice and they can comment ohhhh that hair but I think no one would laugh at that and pay attention to that voice.

Seeing Amber’s reaction gave me a big smile. Amber, thousands of women reacted the same way as you to Michael Bolton and his music back in the day. 😉 this guy’s voice is similar to Michael McDonald’s, and that it has an incredible amount of soul and people often mistake them for black singers. I would say that ever since African-American folks started making R&B and soul music, there have been white people loving it and many white artists, from great Britain to America and beyond, have emulated it well.

Laura’s vocal is unmatched imo, she almost sings too well. But towards the end she gets emotive. But production on hers is awful, both aren’t great. Nothing timeless about it. Very period. Michael Bolton - Go the Distance (from the Disney Hercules soundtrack 1997) is my favorite, but he has so many, and it is a deep dive, songs like Soul Provider, Dock Of the Bay, When A Man Loves a Woman, When I'm Back On My Feet Again, To Love Somebody, Time Love And Tenderness, That's What Love Is All About, Steel Bars, Missing You Now, Said I Love But I Lied.

Remember Laura Branigan, the lady who sang "Self Control" that you did last month? Though Bolton wrote the song, it was Laura who did the original version in 1982. Michael's version came out in 1989. I'll leave it to you to decide who did it better. (P.S. Laura killed it.) Michael also hit it big with numerous covers of soul/R&B classics like Percy Sledge's "When a Man Loves a Woman", The Four Tops' "I'll Be There", and Bill Withers' "Lean On Me". Some of his best original songs are "Time, Love and Tenderness", "Said I Loved You...But I Lied", and "Love is a Wonderful Thing".

I was never a fan of Michael Bolton, but I did really like “Said I Loved You…But I Lied” when it came out.

Laura Branigan also did 'The Power of Love', which later was sung by Celine DIon.... which you'all just checked out. at some point, please find your way back around to the Laura Branigan versions. Not gonna play better or worse, her versions are also great.
