What helped me solve what I thought was UNCURABLE target pain (trigger punching) was what Joel said. Pull and relax the hand (letting the hand stretch). Once I wrapped my head around that, I found myself following through the shot. Not an expert but can vouch for Joel and his process 👍

Was surprised that Jeff was so unaware of his trigger punching. Looking forward to his progression. It’s amazing how accurate one can be once pin float is trusted, and a clean controlled break of the release occurs.

This is great. It believe this is a fantastic way to see where you are and what you need to do to improve. And doing reps on the 3d range should also help. Definately do more of these videos. I am trying to do the same thing. Not for hunting but to improvee fitness and accuracy as i am trying to build back up so i can shoot 3d courses again. 50 years old with back issue, worn knees and nerve and strength issue in my legs and feet. Seeing these videos sure helps to motivate me and help me feel better knowing we all have ups and downs and with hard work and time. We do improve and get better. Keep up the great work guys

Totally agree on "trusting the float". It's amazing how many shots will find X's and 12's if you just keep your eyes focused on the center, allow the pin to float and keep going with the shot execution.

I really enjoy the 3d videos. Over here in Australia shooting even a hunting bow is not easy to get out and practice let alone a 3d range. My hunting club does once a month and so do some other clubs but there are not 3d ranges permanent. Not even a range you can shoot more than 60# Australia sucks for Bow hunting practice.

@ericlloyd8258

Keep doing this series. 3D archery can get boring to watch unless you are seeing those hits like we can see with your camera work. Also, I think the commentary and analyzing the shots makes it more enjoyable to watch and help to learn from things. Jeff might need a different fit on his release, like how MFJJ likes to have his thumb around the barrel but touching, almost anchored against the release body so it has to be the pull through that sets off his release. And maybe going heavier with his release tension, that really has helped me with my trigger release, I have mine set as heavy as possible.

Hey Jeff, here's some things that help me shoot thumb buttons with control! PULL HARD!!! Wrap your thumb AROUND the barrel, the last joint of your thumb should act like a wall for the barrel to push against. If you're having a hard time getting shots to go off increase pressure with your ring finger. This will push the barrel INTO your thumb. This helps greatly when shots are getting stale or on tricky up and downhill shots.
@sportbikeguy9875
@sportbikeguy9875 4 ай бұрын
Exactly, although i always think of it as decreasing pressure with index finger, i find it more relaxing and steady to relax the undex rather than tighten the ring

I recently did Joel's course. Still don't have it mastered. However, I did ask in the comments about blank bale practicing and he suggested that was not a the best recommendation at this point. Basically, you need to get over the anticipation with an actual target. My understanding is you could probably get the feeling of the shot while blank baling, but then when you get in front of a target the anticipation creeps in and you start punching again.
@nathanwiens108
@nathanwiens108 4 ай бұрын
Yep, this is the exact problem with blank bailing. You aren't practicing your actual shot sequence, nor are you putting everything together (maintaining tension in the back, correct release shoulder position/release angle that doesn't result in pulling yourself down off the target), so you get a completely false reading of what you're practicing.

In my mind I’m playing that ‘alligator dentist’ kids game. The goal is to move my thumb as far down my pointer finger as possible without the release (onnex c) going off. When it does go off I ‘get bit’ and am surprised. Might sound silly but has helped a lot.

Curious about your thoughts on floating pins vs holding too much draw weight? Understandably, it's harder to settle your pins if your shaking, you will rush your shot. But how much better could your scores be, if you pulled 60lbs? Have you considered testing this?
