Sounds like typically not so great 80's attempts at fusion song/with lyrics/ trying to score some MOR/RnB Adult contemporary crossover airplay. Well, it's actually better than most of those embarrassing attempts. There was some very cringy love songs lyrics being sung back then trying for a market share on the Quiet Storm. Some of Jeff's song too. Oh my. Lame. They shoulda called Stevie W or Paul McArtney or Paul Simon or Maurice White for some help, but of course they were greedy powder heads, and needed the money badly, and thought they'd keep all the publishing for text and music. Wrong. You kept 5% of" not much", cuz those songs were never going top 10 with those tiresome, cliche,. cheesy, SpyroGyra type melodies and cringey lyrics. Leave the lyric writing to lyricists. Don't try to step too far outside the purview of your acumen, or you will make people CRINGE:, Just write and play the deadly, hard, smoking, funky stuff.:)

Ah! That sounds much more like it!!! I have been an avid fan ( have all his stuff on vinyl too, except his must recent digital stuff...) since the days of The Jeff Lorber Fusion when Willie Bobo played with him and well before Kenny G ( Gorlick ) became famous with his mellow but smooth sax playing which ironically won him a Grammy when Jeff was already playing award winning fusion... Such is life! May Jeff's music live on!

im pretty sure that Eric Marienthal on sax. Jeff Lorber Fusion Band, wow! It wasn't until the Summer, prior to, my freshman year of college as my new brother-in law, my sister, and Mom* had made a pot stop in Ann Arbor / UNIVERSITY of MICHIGAN on our way to visit with relatives residing in Detroit. my brother-in-law has immediately provided the answer to my posed question " what is the name of this band playing tight now, as, we enjoyed cruising up State Street That when sisters Husband, ( br provided s responded with the name, Jeff Lorber Fusion Band. Song - " Rain Dance, circa Spring, 1985.' However, i played s the Coronet ( jazz trumpet from the learning the scales since the 5th grade up, till that juncture. It was a Good Day

Another stellar Lorber lineup!! I agree with the other enthusiastic posters about Sonny Emory. He just makes the band even better! Though drummers are inherently obscured by the massive kits that are the tools of their trade, they are the ones that really make or break a band. With Sonny Emory's pristine chops, we know that he clearly falls into the former category of making the band! He makes it look effortless. 🥁Hats off (pun intended) to the incomparable Lorber and crew. Kudos to all! This is the title track on a gem of an album. I think it's one of Lorber's more diverse albums to date as it gives the listener a glimpse of the many facets of the keyboard wizard's musical vision (whether it's a midtempo tune such as this, a funky romp like "Surreptitious" or the tender Eric Benet and Paula Cole duet of "The Other Side of the Heart," Jeff Lorber is truly a treasure! God bless!🎹🎶🥁🎷🎸

Jeff Lorber has endless renditions of his own music snd often plays his songs inside, out! The recorded version, however, with the perfect clarity of headphones, isolated instrumentation options in order to utilize the sustsin pedals, which perhaps, got left behind while packing up for the road, yields, s unique smooth sequence of 5th, i possibly could stand to be corrected, progressive much smoother than the staccato adrenaline of this performance, opting for, a sweet display of the drummers " get busy " retro jazz skills.. ( Buddy Rich .. chuckles )
