What a wonderful song for your wedding song. I was there back in those days too, watching it on TV with Andy Williams Show. Hearing this music on modern equipment, compared to car radios and small black and white TV's. I love Roy Orbison and Jay Black & The Americans to hit those high notes, but this performance is in it's level. A triumph.

There was no place to hide back then. It was a different era to be sure, the performers dressed in formal suits and dresses created a classy event. Today's performers seem to hardly make an effort and rely on auto-tune and special stage effects instead of talent and practice honing their craft. Some disrespect their fans and walk out or don't bother showing up at all. Song lyrics have to be shocking and nasty to get attention.

This was live on tv, audience asked to keep quiet, musos in the next room, mum in the audience, young Bobby Hatfield had a head-cold and this is the best version for all time. This was also only about 20 years before auto-tune was even invented, so if you couldn't sing well (and he did great, ) you just had to stay home.

This is widely referred to as the greatest live performance of all time. It was live in 1965 on The Andy Williams Show. No autotuners or other electronics and a very basic sound system for the time. Just pure, raw talent. It is the most requested song for "first dances" at weddings. The term "blue-eyed soul" was coined for them. They got their name while singing at a black nightclub in the south. At the end of the performance, a guy stood up and yelled "that was righteous brothers".

This is a live performance from The Andy Williams Show. There is another KZfaq video of this that shows Andy Williams interviewing both of the Righteous Brothers and they are joking around. Andy requests that they do Unchained Melody and Bobby informs him that he does this one by himself. When Andy Williams asks why, Bill Medley jokingly says, “Because I didn’t think it would be a hit.” When Andy and Bill walk off the stage, Bobby takes the microphone and performs this song. The song is from a B movie Unchained. It was a 1955 prison movie and this song was written for a prisoner that was pinning for his lover as he contemplated trying to escape to see her or doing all of his time. The Righteous Brothers recorded it in 1965 and it was a huge hit. Their recording was a big hit again in 1990 when it was in the Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore movie Ghost. Ghost wasn’t the only movie to feature a Righteous Brothers song. They sang You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling in Top Gun. Bill Medley sang a duet with Jennifer Warnes, I’ve had the Time of My Life in the movie Dirty Dancing.
