Great video, i knew basically every "fact" from the video already since I'm a big fan of Doug and I've already watched almost every podcast he's in (although i gotta say i had forgotten about his books lol!) but your analysis and explanation of the business is on point, your knowledge of the startup scene comes through in this, how he got such a great Product Market Fit and how it being a tech business helps with that Zero Marginal Cost thing probably lead to that big valuation, he really made it.

It's never too late to start working on your financial freedom. I bought my first house at 37 and cleared all my debts. I have never been happier and the future is looking quite better. Amazing to see Doug's story here, amazing video! He showed that KZfaq can be an incredibly powerful launchpad to create a real company. MrBeast is the most cited example I see of how you can build something from KZfaq, but what I love about Doug's story is that he didn't build an empire from the videos themselves or from personal branding. As a creator he's the best example of what I'd like to achieve myself with my channel

anyone remember saabkyle04? Started before Doug and was huge for its day but did not differentiate from the crowd. Focusing on quirks and appealing to the masses, which was something different, is what made Doug in hindsight. Same story with JakeTran and his self-realization after reading and applying the Blue Ocean Strategy. he differentiated and that made THE difference. As an aside, Doug was TikTok, before people realized the effects of TikTok. Any one of his car review videos can be easily cut and split into multiple TikTok short videos (with each on one quirk) and it would not feel out of place. So his long videos can be seen as a series of tiktoks strung together. It constantly renews the attention span and doses of dopamine. I figured that's actually the reason why his videos can appeal to the masses, and get watch times. Even as a car guy, I can't stand watching some of the other long-winded car reviews unless I have a personal vested interest in that particular car. drop a like if you agree

I watched him in OG days however when he opened cars and bids I pretty much stopped. Not intentionally but it seemed it has became too commercial and his simpler style was a reason I watched him in a first place. But I'm glad his work paid off tho :)

How Human Nature Works Human nature is the desire to receive, also called “desire to enjoy,” and it functions by receiving what is beneficial to itself and rejecting what is harmful. Everything in our lives is built upon this calculation where we first try to distance ourselves from harm, and then seek how to draw ourselves closer to what is beneficial. Human nature also includes a multilayering of systems that work simultaneously on still, vegetative, animate and human levels. One of those systems is our bodily one, which operates involuntarily. If our bodies are healthy, then they know what is good for them and draw that goodness to themselves. After the bodily system, there is the emotional system, which also functions relatively according to instinct. From the emotional system, we move to the mind, and from the mind to the intellect, and so on. That is, we have systems over systems that concurrently work on receiving what is beneficial and rejecting what is harmful. Such is human nature and the essence of our lives. Our every desire, thought and action operates according to the calculation, “How can we receive what is most beneficial to us and reject what is harmful?”

You just need an Economics degree from a prestigious university, industry contacts after working at Porsche and working for next to nothing writing for websites, be wealthy enough to buy a Ferrari and have parent a rich enough and willing to co sign for it. Have the money to support yourself for years while you build a fan base too. Yep, anyone could do what Doug did.

@RandomDeforge
@RandomDeforge 10 ай бұрын
noone in this video is pronouncing it correctly. it's a spanish writing (as in 'J' pronounced as 'H') for a polish word Khalupnik which meant a poor peasant in a rich urban area. short version is khalop. in the context of the car magazine it's basically not-rich people (poor peasants) goggling at fancy supercars (rich urban environment). Khalupnik is also a last name found in eastern europe states and its basically derived from the original meaning. There is a family line by that last name found in California, so perhaps somewhere, someone spanish-speaking heard Khalopnik and wrote it down as Jalopnik.
