Actually, France lost the war because the government surrendered. Germany didn't touch french pieces, just went straight to the king. Military should have had elected a new king and resumed the game. Well that's what happened when de Gaulle took over.

It reminds me of a game played by my pupils at school (100-200 Elo) where i went out for a second and upon coming back I saw that they had only 5 pawns left for both sides while almost all the pieces are on the backrank. Too bad they didn't write the notation, i think it was crazy.

I feel like believing the specifics of what they believed, qualified as an insanity on many different levels of cognition. It's narcissism, it's false belief, it's lack of a sense of consequences, it's acting on fear and a preemptive defensive survival even when survival no longer depends on it, as though an unrelated life trauma has reduced cost of other lives, as though he was desensitized to causing or contemplating the deaths of others.

@@RoundShades What you point out about Nazism in general being a kind of insanity is very interesting. There are many layers to the dysfunction for sure; another aspect that comes to mind is the compulsive drive towards "cleanliness". The Nazi obsession with "purity" manifested most plainly in their racial policies, but also in more mundane ways, such as their attitudes towards personal hygiene.

One opponent tried to do that with me It was very scary as I didn't know how to refute it. Eventually, I sacrificed a piece and got ahead, but sadly I lost on time trying to figure out what the hell was going on! Pawn attacks are fun!

Generally you want to refute your opponent's center control with your own pawns but this gets tricky when you don't know that they're going to neglect all development to keep putting out more pawns. Once that strategy becomes clear you might be too late to salvage the position, as happened in this game.

Some games played WAY BACK when only the Arabs were playing Chess. It would be interesting to watch how the very first Chess games of history were played without rules such as en Passat existing. Love the content and congratulations on your engagement :)

I can't speak for the quality of play, but I know that old chess was super weird. Pawns couldn't move two spots at first, or en passant. Bishops moved diagonally only one space, and queens moved only two spaces diagonally. Rooks were completely normal though lol

The early games are fascinating. I like stuff from the 1400s onwards where the game was basically the modern game but people were still figuring out how to play it, their approaches are really interesting.

Can we get a video on how to refute these kind of stupid pawn move openings? Sometimes I find my opponents charging 4+ pawns down the board, but they're all defended and I have a hard time stopping them. Is it better to counter them with your own pawn moves?

Important to remember that Deimer wasn't just a "sympathizer," he was a member of the Nazi party, and completely outspoken on their platform. Before the war, he was doing just fine and the Nazi party with all it's same white-nationalist beliefs was totally accepted, but Germany overstepped and attacked other white, Christian nations, so "then" they were the bad guys and people like Deimer were finally shunned from non-political organizations as well.
