This is a fun episode. The riley reveal, Xander -v-harmony slap fight and the spike willow scene always cracks me up.

For Xander, he was only briefly a soldier, but he was, for that time, a soldier with full training, not one day of training. Marc Blucas is a really nice guy. Leonard Riberts (Forrest) I'd also very cool. I didn't interact with Bailey Chase as much, but he seemed nice. To this day, my Buffy friends still use, "A vague disclaimer is nobody's friend." The Xander/Harmony fight is legendary. I loved Spike/Willow.

a lot of people roll their eyes at professor walsh in particular being in the initiative, but it makes a lot of sense to me. riley's cover wouldn't work if he didn't have a professor who was in the know and the schedule flexibility that comes from that.

Best part of the episode is Xander and Harmony trying to fight in slow motion.

I watch reactions to this episode only for the Willow/Spike scene. The best scene in this season for me. These kind of moments are worth spending time on. I only enjoy scenes that stand out from the rest routine.

First, Spike was too good a character to write out of the series. Marsters portrayed what was supposed to be a short-term character too well (thankfully) and got a promotion. Thankfully, as he was and remains a fan favorite. [Edit - oops! This was also a great reveal to Buffy of the Initiative. And their introduction to the Slayer.]

A nice comedic reversal after the drama of the last episode and the buildup to the reveal of the Initiative. Willow and Spike being supportive and understanding to each other is pure character gold, and weirdly heartwarming. And the sissy fight was just Chef's Kiss.

It only gets better from here! And I can't wait to see your reactions as the season progresses!

The Initiative contains some brilliant comedy moments, from when Spike says could be 'cosmetic company' in answer to the lab rats reference. Then we also have the greatest fight in The Buffyverse, with Xander and Harmony bitch slapping and sissy kicking in slow motion, a homage to the Kung Fu series of the 1970s. We then have Spike in Willow's room, and the analogy to erectile disfunction, Willow says 'doesn't this happen to every vampire', and then Willow saying it must be me, and Spike saying he would bite her in a heartbeat, all this achingly funny. We now know about Riley and Prof Walsh, and their activity with The Initiative in what is like some kind of Bond Film complex. Riley is almost as awkward as Angel when it comes to chatting up women, but we can see how much he likes her when laying out Parker. An important episode the S4 as a whole.

TAs are usually just students. He’s either a Masters or PhD candidate taking classes and helping with teaching… in addition to monster hunting. Though if he’s also professional military he may have some extra years there as well. When I was a TA we were explicitly forbidden from dating our students. That was a few years before this show was on the air. So I’m sure they’re taking liberties. As far as the age gap is concerned, her previous boyfriend was a vampire before the USA became a country. At least she’s an adult now and he’s alive. There’s potential for a healthier relationship here.
