This was me. Just imagine a big as offensive lineman in full gear holding a clarinet. Edit: To answer some questions on how I managed both band and football during game day. For my freshman and sophomore years, it wasn't too bad because I was on the JV team and the band only performed in Varsity games. Then for junior year on the varsity team, I would perform in the halftime shows, then go immediately into stretching with the team, while my line coach basically gives me the "sparks notes" version of the half time adjustments. However, by senior year, I was being looked at by a few collages. Because football was my main priority and I really wanted to go all-out, just in case I will never play ball again, I reluctantly dropped band to shift all my focus on football. I earned my letters for both athletes and band, which was pretty cool though.

Cello and trumpet in middle school. I legitimately cried when our director said the band and orchestra would be playing together. Mostly because I didn’t know if I should wear the button down and skirt for band, or the long dress for orchestra!

Definitely a thing. I play mellophone, flute, French horn next semester, potentially tuba next year (up to our director), and I actively participate in FFA, plus I help run our GSA.

Our school once the players made it to varsity football the coaches and band directors made you chose one or the other to commit all your time to. I think all the other teams and organizations were like that because we never had anyone from dance or cheer or any of that. But then again it was the stereotype back then of we (each team/org) hated one another for the most part. Across town though at another school my homie player flute and was the kicker 🤣

@Trinity M I'm gonna show my age here, but that was the way it was for me too. I graduated in 1998 and I was in band and also did flags and rifles in the marching band. It was legit a FULL on commitment and we were GRADED on it during our "summer practices" because we (the band) started school 2 weeks before everyone else to start learning our field show routine, parade dress, and all music. 12 hour days, 5 days a week for 2 weeks. Then school started and it was everyday during class, sectionals during study hall 2x a week, and every day for another 2-3 hours after school, plus game nights and competitions on the weekend. When football was over, pep band started for basketball games and we still had local parades and competitions to do. It was crazy! I miss it though. Still a band geek at heart. Love a great drumline cadence 🎵🎵🎵 and watching the new generation play 💜

This was a normal thing at my high school. Cheerleaders on the drumline, football players marching. And it actually was a big school.
