Difference Is players today finish football with millions of pounds and don't need the hassle of it. The old school managers had to keep working

40% of footballers go bankrupt within five years of retirement so most don't finish with millions. They think they'll naturally be getting that money for the rest of their life and don't scale down their lifestyle in time till its all gone. Plus they have to keep up with appearances and keep the wife happy as 30% of them also get divorced within 12 months of retiring lol. No financial education or family background of wealth, making millions a year from the time you're a teenager and vulture agents and hanger ons is a recipe for disaster. You'll probably say "well they should just be smart and invest", but a lot succumb to investment and property scams as well. Most ex players are desperate to get into coaching and managing hence why so many take their coaching badges but unless they're are a first team coach or manager at the top flight level then the money really doesn't compare to their playing days and is closer to an average wage. Also once you have a couple of bad manager or even coaching jobs you are seen as used goods and will have to get back in at an even lower level

@@solshields well put, football isn’t as easy a lark as the layman thinks. I saw my first live football games at Charlton when they were in the premier league and a lot of those players ended up taking menial jobs after they finished playing: Mendonca who scored a hat trick in the playoff final ended up working in a car factories up north!

@@richardsmith9615 Aston Villa were not a side expecting to fight relegation, Gerrard was brought in to get them into mid table minimum… possibly further in the coming years… Bournemouth, Brentford, Palace and Fulham are all above them… clubs who ARE expected to fight relegation… stop making excuses for ‘Stevie G’ 😂 and for the record, Valencia were in a lot of turmoil when Neville went in… sitting 9th and with issues in the club… The fact is, Gerrard wasn’t going anywhere… the fans turned on him, he was falling out with his own players and he basically got found out… that job was too soon for him… a risk that didn’t pay off… that’s his hopes of the Liverpool job well and truly up in smoke

Arsenal fan here, and I only state this because of the REAL days of football - I have mad respect for Gary, the guy makes absolute points. When he is talking about how English pundits are judged the lad is spot on like. Nev gave it a go which is more than 90% of the other pundits can vouch for so fair play bro, fair play

completely agree with gary, when you work in football (player or coach) you’re a public figure and you need to be able to take criticism however harsh it is, it’s part of the job you signed up for

What's the problem they are taking about? There are enough managers aren't there? Why push players into it, let them seek it out if they have a passion for coaching.

Why do you need badges, it doesn’t allow the managers to express their way of playing or demands in the game!!

I suppose it’s like most jobs, you need to show a level of understanding and expertise within a framework of any industry. Once that criteria has been met, it’s up to you to the apply or interpret your ideals and visions once encumbered in the position. If you didn’t require any qualifications, then that would be the time to looked into and address the situation.

Apart from Bobby Robson, I don't see many ex England players who have done a great job. Glenn Hoddle maybe....perhaps. Foreign players seemed to have done better...Pep, Zidane...

The best managers a lot of times never had a good playing career. The FA for England should be looking at guys like Howe and Potter who maybe weren’t great players but are very intelligent
@karlm641
@karlm641 Жыл бұрын
@@TrequartistaFM it’s because you’ve got to be a combo of still needing a job (most players set for life after one contract now) and serving a proper coaching apprenticeship and learning the trade of improving players etc in the lower leagues. No way that likes of Shearer, Keane, Carragher etc would have done that, they don’t need the money and wouldn’t want to work with poor players.

Why must it be ex players who go into management. When the majority of ex non top level footballers forge a career outside football. Also non players/non pro players have gone on to achieve great things as football coaches
