Jerome, the shrimp you’re thinking of is the pistol shrimp, which snaps its claws so fast it creates a mini sonic boom which knocks out its prey. The mantis shrimp punches with the force of a bullet, it doesn’t shoot out water.

Ok I am a biology nerd and I am here to fact check. The mantis shrimp has extremely powerful arms that enable it to through a punch with the force of a 22 cal. bullet. The shrimp he is talking about is the pistol shrimp which opens then closes it's larger claw extremely fast which causes an air bubble to form in the claw. When the bubble is popped it produces a sonic boom which will stun all organisms nearby, the shrimp that shoots water from it's claw like a bullet is Clawitzer or Clauncher

I’m sorry Jerome but that isn’t a mantis shrimp. It’s a pistol shrimp that shoots an air bubble that paralyzes the prey. The mantis shrimp just punches and doesn’t shoot air. The pistol shrimp shoots a water bubble for a very short distance that’s as hot as the surface of the sun.

Jerome I think the type of shrimp your thinking of that shoots the water is a pistol shrimp. The mantis shrimp just punches things extremely hard while the pistol shrimp shoots out a bubble by snapping its claws. The small bubble it produces is extremely hot and loud and is used to stun fish.
