Bro the way the skinwalker responded to what you said was PERFECT, no way that was a coincidence.

The skinwalkers mod is great because it forces you and your friends to say the most unorthodox shit just to prove you are real after enough time. Because normal banter and directions becomes too suspicious after a bit. Whats even better, is after a slightly longer period, the monsters start using the older weird lines too, so you'll just here stuff like "My underwear is purple" at random while in the facility halls.

i was carrying my friends dead body with me when i heard that same friend eating chips. mortified, i said “youre not him. you cant eat those chips. those were HIS not YOURS.” and as soon as i turned the corner the bracken came rushing at me and said “what are you talking about?” before running off.

We also had one where I said "Oh man this Fire Exit might be bad" then a skinwalker Flower Man said "I wouldn't trust it"

I genuinely think that mod is smarter than it seems. I've had it answer me or tell me no. I was shouting "Get the Shovels" to kill a mask and it replied "no". It's even had some conversations with my friends using my voice lmao

my favorite moment with the skin walker mod was 1 person on my team put on a mask, and while his body chased after another unsuspecting friend, the skinwalker used a clip of his voice saying "Hey its not that bad"

I want to know how this mod works under the hood, because it's uncomfortably smart like that. At times, monsters give oddly situation-specific responses. Once had a baboon hawk happily bounce towards the ship, and announce that it was at the ship. Also had a mimic call: "mic check, hello?" in the voice of the player it was imitating.

turned a corner inside a mansion to see a nutcracker standing just beyond the doorway, it cocked its gun, stared me right in the eyes and (in my friend's voice), shouted "SHITTTTTTTTTT!!" at the top of its lungs. I died 3 times right then: laughter, fear and, a 12 gauge to the face.

Best skinwalkers moment for me was an eyeless dog saying "f*cking giants"

This mod (and the fake fire exit monster) definitely need to be an official part of the game. Edit: I'd also love to hear skinwalker play your own voice back at you. That would be terrifying.

I was playing with some friends and I was shouting for help cuz I saw the bug boys with loot and I wanted them, actually we NEEDED them. I kept shouting for anyone to hear me and I hear "Yo, here" and I was explaining the plan while heading to where I heard it and a FUCKING BRACKEN was standing there

My buddies and I came up with a safe word to identify ourselves to prove we weren’t skinwalkers. We decided on “Ram Ranch”. Cause it’s funny. And easy to say… One time. After I had already died, one person stayed behind in the ship and our third and only other went in alone to grab something / find some last minute loot. While spectating him I heard him say “Ram ranch………. Ram Ranch?…….. Ram ranch??……….. Stephen Colbert??” And then run back outside. After spawning back in, he explained that he heard one of us say “Ram Ranch” (I didn’t hear it while spectating) and nothing else while inside. And after starting to freak out because of no response he tried saying “Stephen Colbert??” To get some sort of reaction. But it wasn’t any of us. They mimicked our code word. And we learned we needed to change it up often. I love this game. And this mod mixed with masked enemy overhaul is insane.

Skinwalker mod once started saying things I say to everyone. Everyone caught on because they knew I was back at the ship. But then it said (almost like a reply in my voice), “No I’m not.” Then it wasn’t until a bunch of people died and also no one found me inside everyone thought I was in there with them… somewhere. Very well used, “Can’t be, he staying at the ship.” “No I’m not.”

it'd be cool if someone made a game based on skin walkers were they get AI to convert spoken words to text then decide which voice clip is the most fitting response to other players questions

In one of my matches with my friend, we had the mimic mod and skinwalker mod enabled, I was trying to leave and there were two fire exits, I said "I dont truth either of these," then a hoarding bug said in my friend's voice "Dont go left," so I went with the fire exit on the right as a throw-away joke because there was a good chance both doors were mimics. The door I went through was the correct door! Hoarding bugs have been my favorite since then lol.

It would be rad if the skinwalker had a record mechanic where if your voice got to screaming levels,it recorded it and played your screams back when it spotted you

We weren't sure how the skinwalker mod fully worked but we could hear our voices. We thought the skinwalker was its own creature and or not a creature at all but just random bits of audio we would hear to scare us. I went in Solo and my friend stayed on the ship. I made a jump then heard something in the room next to me. It then said "I wonder if the skinwalker is a real thing or not". I think personally for me that was the scariest moment in the game.

Made my skin crawl. It sounded like it responded to what you were saying.

ooh i’ve got a good one. about two days ago maybe i joined a random game with that mod on. when we were looting a bunker on march for quite some time now, i first heard a distant explosion then like a minute later i came back to investigate. i didn’t see a body weirdly so i kept looking and calling out into the darkness. then i heard ‘hello?’ i responded ‘hi, it’s me, Osrelios, u good?’ but before i could finish that i heard ‘oh it’s you, heheh, come help me pick up some loot’. obviously i said ‘yeah coming’. now here’s the creepy part: as i was scanning for that supposed loot i did see some, one of which was a flashlight. that was concerning so i scanned around the corner. and i finally saw a dead body i was so eagerly trying to find. and the one talking to me was a pesky little SNARE FLEA that jump scared me so bad as the whole team watched me suffocate to death. yeah they were all dead i just didn’t know it, all TEN of them. i kept typing stuff in the chat… if you’re wondering how did all fucking 10 people die, it was mostly the dogs because we had brutal company on. one died to a landmine, one to a snare flea, i think someone also died to just backing out from the dogs and drowning in a pool which was hilarious

the skinwalker mod is perfect for this game I had a time using it with more company and 5 friends, 2 were dead and the rest of us were outside at the ship doing loot runs from the bottom of the stairs on titan and as I got to the loot the ghost girl chased me up the stairs out of voice range from the ship, then a dog started chasing me up the stairs after the girl had gone so I was stuck up there for a while, as I started crouching down the stairs avoiding the dog it played the voice of one of my alive friends in the ship saying "oh god there's a mimic in the ship" warning me about the mimic so I ended up just jumping into the ship from the stairs as the last one left got grabbed by the mimic letting me pull the lever and escape I'm never gonna forget that moment lady luck must really have a thing for me if she's letting monsters give me callouts

My creepiest one so far was when I Inverse Teleport in with the boys on Titan, I shouted "Guys? Anyone there?" and I got a reply "Here, here." Only to run to a mask whose back was facing me and killed me immediately on contact. This mod is so good.

That mod is CONTENT CENTRAL they should really implement it in the next update.

This mod is way too good. I know it's random the way it picks things but for my friend group we almost always get perfectly timed, perfectly selected lines. We've started to question whether or not it's coincidence. I'll share some favorites: - Friend (Drew) and I were sneaking back to the ship. A dog manages to sneak up on him through the fog and kills him. Then a second dog wanders in front of me and, in our other friend's voice, says *"Where's Drew?"* - A coilhead spawned in front of me while I was trying to find my way back with a full inventory. Then I hear "That was fucked up..." and a second one peaks through the doorway to continue: "That was SO fucked up..." (Yes it was, sir.) - Probably my favorite. I went into the main entrance and didn't get to do anything else before a loot bug ran in through the left door, then right back out through the right, yelling "Oh my God! It's a ghost!" while maintaining direct eye contact with me on his way through. I spooked him pretty bad, i guess.

I love the skinwalkers mod. Once, I was in a building talking to a friend about a potential Bracken when he gets killed by it. The next thing I hear is another friend's voice saying "Nah, I don't think there's a Bracken in there" before slaughtering me too.

That response was just to perfect. Not sure but it feels like the Skinwalker mod has a way to store and read what you said like making a transcript on the spot to learn and if it's in distance tries to respond with a line it has stored fitting best to the conversation it hears. I'm most likely completely wrong with this but it at least seems a bit like it sometimes lol.

At one point my friends and i were talking about milk type preferences in the ship, and apparently those audio clips were saved because later i was hiding from an eyeless dog that cheerfully informed me “whole milk is the only milk i’ll ever drink” as it walked by. I died because i couldnt control my laughter

Fun fact, a skinwalker originally was essentially a native american medicine man/woman that went evil.

First time I encountered a mimic in our sesh, I felt chills going down my spine, and I was harshly reminded what game I was playing. Said friend it imitated had a rather specific way of talking in English, down to the diction, and I believe myself to have sharp hearing. I communicated with her that I was coming back with loot, and I heard her reply "Yes, we're winning guys!" from the bottom of the staircase I was descending. Switched to my walkie and realized it died a long time ago, and I suddenly circled back to another exit like someone just poured ice down my back.

"am i gambling my life on a 50/50?" *goes around the staircase, instead of into a room* " *Good Chance You Were.* "

That coin toss animation triggered my PTSD.

Hot take, I feel like only the Bracken and the Mask should be allowed to talk. The Bracken, due to its stealthy stalking nature, would benefit having the ability to lure players into the darkness, and lull you into a false sense of security. Masks are rather obvious, so I won't explain it. Hearing voice mimicry from every monster loses its horror potential, in my opinion.

this is like, genuinely the most terrifying mod i've ever seen for any game. like it takes a decently scary game, which is already impressive for a low graphics coop game with an integrated dance button and ice cream jingle, and makes it so terrifying on a level i have never seen in any other game. in a game where the proximity chat is the most reliable form of communication, hearing your friend's voice nearby knowing it isnt them just throws you off so badly.
