as a french, the scanner system is a big crap. You might think it's op because you can see what's in the case before you buy it. But in reality it's exactly the same as normal case, because once you've used the scanner, you cannot use it again before you buy the item inside. So you cannot open any other case until you pay for the key of the one you tried to open. This appart, we cannot even buy case anymore, our only way to get cases is through ingame reward that means 1-2 maximum per week. So, in the end, he got really lucky, but our system is really trash. Do not think it's broken lmao

And btw, if you think about it, whether you get a knife at 5000€ or a .80ctm skin, in the end valve doesn't lose anything, they just gain 2,20€ per case because those skins doesn't cost anything to them and they are not the ones buying them, so in fact, a knife dropping will even make them money (because if it's sold on steam market they'll have a share and in the end it's money that can only be used on the steam market)

To get around gambling laws, valve released the P250 X-Ray skin, a non-tradable skin for purchase for around 2 dollars. It allows the user to preview what is inside the case before actually opening it. The trick is you have to actually open that previewed case before you can use the scanner again, so it really is kind of useless outside of being a novelty.

no, it's a special thing for france only (because laws here have forbidden online gambling if the odds of every possible items is not listed) the way it works is that, you've got an xray scanner, at first, filled with a p250 xray (that is in fact trade locked) and you have to buy 2.20€ to unlock it. Then, you can use your xray scanner on a case for free, once you do, it reveals the item there is inside of it and put it in the scanner. You cannot use the scanner again untill you buy the key for the bo you scanned to get the item you looted. It's just a workaround valve made to dodge the law because this way, you only pay for something you know you will have, but in the end it's the exact same thing (because you can't open an other case before you actually buy the key for the first one) it's just leess fun, more confusing and we cannot even buy cases on the market anymore so even if it was op (which is not the case) we would be limited to in-game case drops which is 1-2 max per week

The rolling of the case you see is completely fake and is added to make you want to open cases because you "almost got the red" Xray exists because french law is againts gambling, i.e not knowing what you get. Valve added the xray scanner where you out your cases. The scanner then shows what you get from the case (ex. Blue sg) you, as the player, can then decide whether to buy a key, and "unbox" the item. This bypasses the "gambling" because you now know what you will get and its therefore a market transaction, not a random lootbox. But as long as you gavent bought the scanned item you cannot scan another case. This makes it so its just like a normal case opening but takes more time

At France theres laws banning gambling and csgo case opening considered as gambling so valve changed that to xraying them then buying the case xrays cost around €0.21 case key costs + €2.19 you have to buy the case to open another one but you can just abandon your account or never open cases again
