The few engines I have worked on the head was held from walking by the dowel pins. It was not a tight fit but the head did not walk around like that.
@jashaw0030

The dowel pins in the block are there to align the head gasket only--There are shoulders on the head bolts that align the head to the block.

If you have a head ground you should run a chase in the threads to make sure they were clean all the way to the bottom

Head bolts need to have the threads and under the heads lightly oiled. threads should have had the proper sized tam run into the holes. I made a living working on diesel engines for many years.

Position of the head needs to be precise. Those dowels are wrong. I wondern if they were replaced before with the incorrect ones. Also your clamping force on the head will be incorrect in the place where those bolts were not freely screwed in.

To convert inch pounds to foot pounds, simply divide the inch pounds requirement by 12 to get the correct foot pounds conversion. Example: 96 inch pounds ÷ 12 = 8 ft pounds

When I do valve covers I snug the bolts down and I do 1//8 turn the I run the engine for a warm up and then snug it one time 1/8 turn = a 1/4 turn total yuuuuup

NO way it's 95 lbs ft. INCH pounds yes....lol (I'm an old auto mechanic) size of the bolt determines the torque as well as the material being compressed. We like watching your video's. "..makin oil" lol, 15 years.... keep up the good work and entertainment!! (by the way, I wrote this before Hank said inch pounds and then you all realized it was inch pounds....😀

I love the conversation about distance to travel and the amount of time it takes. I have to take a trip across town to Beverly Hills/Crenshaw, which is a 38 mile trip and it's likely going to take nearly 2 hours to get there and then the same, maybe longer to get back. It's like over half the day to go there for a 1 hour hospital visit. Did I tell you I hate So Cal?
