Two years ago, Preston's mom committed suicide, and he says music has quite literally saved his life since then. He's here at American Idol to honor his mom's longtime insistence that he CAN do something like this and become a successful singer-songwriter.

I have BP1 and systematically destroyed my life 4 times. This makes me so sad because of how much I hurt my family. Sometimes I wish they knew what it was like then I don't because then they would feel bad. Even the doctors don't understand bipolar. I'm so sorry he lost his mom it's so horrifying. He is an amazing songwriter.

Beautiful! Sounds like a hit song already. Mental depression is real. I suffered with it growing up on into my adult life. My son is my reasons for not taking my life. He needs me even more now and I need me as well. I love myself past Pluto I’m blessed to say that I’m better…much better. I just want to say whomever is goin through a really ruff and though time and if no one has told you today or any day right now is that…I love you! THIS IS MY #1 PROJECTED WINNER....maybe it's being a momma & gmomma of boys ...& we also lost my ex to suicide & it's been 13yrs but still feels like yesterday some days...anyone who's ever dealt with depression or had their entire life turned upside down in one second out of a day ...& unfortunately that's way too many of us...their gonna connect to this young man...plus his attitude is incredible & that song was simply beautiful....he's not my child & I'm so proud of him he just made my entire week!!! So today I was ministering to someone and they asked, "Why does God allow us to go through hard things in life if he is such a loving God?" I felt that was an amazing question, and I told him that it can be a testimony on how you got through it. This song was 100% a confirmation of what I was explaining today, and I agree that I love the strong melody and his pitch; the song was simply amazing. Keep your head up and your faith in God, and know that He does things for a reason and He loves you!

I lost my mom to suicide when I was 18. I had 5 younger siblings and ended up getting guardianship of my 2 little brothers. It's the biggest loss of my life. I'm rooting for this guy to make it BIG!

He was moreso pointing out that he is the front runner in terms of rawness and song writing, but some of the other guys this season may have been doing music/lessons their whole life, so he still has a lot of room to grow vocally too.

I’m not gone lie I grew up listening to rap hip hop and R&b but this song right here the lyrics make me love country music the way he out his words together in this song shows how realistic his music is because ANYBODY can relate to this!!! Like Lionel Richie say he sitting on the money!
