Jesse has always been one of the good guys right back to his poker days. He's to be commended for fronting up and being honest and transparent about the issues raised. The exchange industry desperately requires competition from the likes of Matchbook and Betdaq to keep Betfair in check and I think clarity around subjects like commission structures and PC will and should interest traders / value bettors from at a minimum having them as part of their portfolio

I suspect the reason is because operators are not being given clear directions and so its hard work for them. Still, we can only but ask! Who would you like to see on the next call?

@@CaanBerryProTrader I appreciate that, I'm under no illusion that most of these affordability checks are out of their hands and they have to satisfy the GC to sustain their licence as you said in the video it would be nice to know a figure as to where these checks are going to be performed at. I would like to see a representative of BetDaq at some point even though I've never used their exchange. In my (match betting) mind they're the smallest player.

Great interview as usual, Caan. He comes across as very genuine - what a contrast to Ben Keith! Jesse - I thought going high protection was a great move - probably vital given the previous troubles. It certainly tempted me back to Matchbook - more than just for the security, which I suppose Medium would have given, but for the signals of the attitude of the company towards its customers. I'd like to see a greater range of enhanced specials (although not via Smarkets model where however they factor their profit into the user-made lay accas they now offer seems to make them much less competitive than the previous pre-made variety).

@@CaanBerryProTrader It depends what offers the bookies have on - it just provides a quick and easy way to lay accas rather than doing each leg manually.

Great interview, Caan. I love Jesse's enthusiasm and openness, but Matchbook would benefit from having a locally-based UK spokesperson who is more understanding of the complexities of the UK market. Also, I'd love to see Caan do a video of a typical Saturday afternoon comparing Matchbook's offerings with those of their major competitor.

Great video. Tho mb is definetly leaving some customers behind. Im sm 0% and never gotten 0% on matchbook (via pa deal). on terms they do say my country is accepted for 0% and actually person i know is 0% deal on matchbook (same country) but for me the answer is simply "Regretfully you are not eligible for 0%". Kind a lame as we are doing same thing, and long term we are losers on exchange and 90%+ of bets are lays (just to hedge bets). my sm volume is around 300-400k month. Tried everything to get alternative to sm also but theres no way 4% (or even 2) is competitve with sm 0%.

Do you think it’s worth opening a Matchbook account Caan? The site seems good and easy to use. What’s the withdrawal timescale like? 2hours Max or 3-5 days?

Competition is a good thing. One horse towns are bad for customers and slow down the future. That said, I don't really see Matchbook in a competition - when you look at the small percentage of exchange users compared to those who use only sportsbooks the opportunity is always to first grow the market size over the market share. All exchanges are trying to solve the same problem - how to provide accessible liquidity - Matchbook is going at it a little differently than the others and our benchmark is a quality product not winning a two furlong race.

29:30 Jessie question. I don’t know why people haven’t tried us. This is psychology. Humans don’t change. EBay is for eBay. Betfair for Betfair. You couldn’t get a new entrant beat eBay in 1-3 years would take 6-10. Same again with an exchange competitor

Jesse May is a straight shooter from the world of poker, so I'm confident Matchbook could do well with him in their stable. Do new account applications have to demonstrate source of wealth immediately or after a while doing business?

We understand that these checks aren't always welcome by our customers, but we have a good understanding of our varied customer base and our compliance agents are here to help navigate you through these questions to make this as painless as possible Hope this helps (Jesse)

What I like about Jess is tries really hide to accommodate the customer .He tries different ways to keep the customer onboard.However some customers will have to accept that if they behaviour does not match the regulatory requirements then they will have to accept that they may not be able to continue using their account.

There enhanced specials prices are often a lot better than smarkets even with the 5% commission on them for the price/turbo boosts etc.

Will Matchbook come Pepsi to Coke. I’d not heard of them. When we have traditionally thought laying off bet Betfair , didn’t even know had competition

Source of wealth can never really be gambling winnings.Source of wealth is really a job with a monthly salary that goes into a bank account or a pension that is been paid regularly in a bank account.

I find matchbook great for laying the win on horses imo and with 0% perfect. still queuing place money on BF I find much more effective even with 2%

Extra place markets for racing are one of our bold type priorities this year - We are well aware of their importance for certain strategies - and compared to our Win markets I agree right now that they aren't up to scratch. Stay tuned.

Exchanges are all selling the same commodity. In all markets there can only be one exchange. LSE LME NYSE NASDAQ Impossible for new entrants to muscle in. Thats why Betfair is still King.
