Interesting study, one has filters, pumps, hoses, cylinder, valves, and hydraulic oil. The Powerking has none of these maintenance components. Just grease the ram. Powerking PK0303 is built for residential use and was overloaded to the max on this video, I was pleased it did well. Just a note for the future, in the directions it shows the hitch is reversible and stores under the work table. Look under your unit, there is a mounting bar for it. This keeps it out of the way when wood splits off the end and keeps it out of the wood pile so you can turn the unit when done and tow it it away. When splitting to the rating on the Kinetic at 1 Sec cycle time vs 12 sec cycle time on hydraulic you will find Kinetics 6 times faster as your not waiting for ram deployment and retraction. BTW Donnie Hazelwood comment is spot on, Powerking has a PK0342 42 ton with patented ABS and Brake Clutch technology that is the proper unit to compare for Commercial use which has heavy tread plate table. wheel jockey, swing away hitch, log cradles, big metal frame, all the stuff you need for big wood. You tested a residential splitter. Good video though, thanks for all the good comments on the Kinetic, I liked the video a lot, the 34 ton did perform well on the over all test. Keep up the good work guys, I was impressed. Gregg Neuer - Founder of Powerking - Las Vegas NV.

Harbor freight actually has a awesome log splitter. It has rails on both sides to hold the logs and a double wedge so you can split both ways. I've had it for 5 years now and have split 27" logs with no problems.

Love it! Got the original, saw how small it was, returned it for the XL. It splits my ~7x16" firewood into smallwood and kindling in a flash. kzfaq.infoUgkxSRemO77LrM90rx_It_Wh6ZnKAS0H2A8t Good for debarking too. It's so fun I now have too much kindling and have to fight the urge to split the big pieces. I usually split dried cedar, but I've split dried oak too. The edge on mine has stayed razor sharp. I mounted it on a couple pieces of pressure treated 4x4 to hold it steady and quiet the ringing. Several reviews and videos show people having trouble keeping the wood straight. How do I put this gently?... You have to be smarter than the wood. Don't try to split knots, or badly curved grain. And hold the wood (with leather gloves) and tap it once to set it on the blade before giving it a good whack. And you have to know how to swing a hammer. If you don't know what wood grain or knots are, and you can't swing a hammer without hitting yourself or things around you, I suggest buying firewood and kindling pre-split. But if you're smarter than a log, this beautiful tool will make splitting firewood into kindling safer, faster and way more funner! I highly recommend it, and get the XL.

Like most replies, I would disagree with the final conclusion that the hydraulic is better for more volume. The fact that inexperienced operators were able to overload it by a LOT, and it still outran the hydraulic says a lot about that little "homeowner" splitter. Most guys don't cut much big wood. Even for those of us that do, big stuff normally makes up less than half. For the 4-5 big, nasty crotch pieces, I'm willing to noodle those if the kinetic splitter will do the rest in one or two hits. The hydraulic unit is built better because it has to be. The kinetic can get away with some lighter duty components because it doesn't have to withstand as much abuse to get the job done. Dollar for dollar, the little kinetic is winning hands down.

The smart thing to do with the connetic splitter is leave it hooked to the truck and as it splits toss the pieces in the truck so you're not double handling it.

Love my power king!!! Use it for my own cord wood needs only. Split 40 cords of red and white oaks over the last 2 years with out a issue. $1300 well worth the money for the power king. I'll never go back to a hydraulic splitter . And you point out that the tray is wobbly well it's at least there!!! The Toro had nothing. Kinetic splitters are far better. But only if your up the the fast pace.

I always do bigger size logs, so i need to have the splitter on the ground. One good thing about the hydraulic as well is that if you have sections of the log that is punky and rotted, you can split it off easier. Sometimes i would do logs where the center of it is good, but around the bark is like 2-3 inches of rot that i always take off and leave on the ground. I know every splitter can have a different cycle times as well, i think dirty hand tools may have the fastest cycle time of the hydraulic splitters.

Stan -- love your videos. They're always helpful. I don't know if you burn firewood often. Not much money in it. But, if you're looking for another video. Eastonmade log splitters are by far the best for your buck. They are NOT cheap. But, they're super fast cycle time (in-between your "slow" Tor0 -- and the super fast cycle time of the kinetic) -- Yet, they have massive power, usually Log lift & conveyor options. They're hydraulic with amazing power & production.

Regarding the argument about the splitted logs falling behind or in front of the wood spliter, a use case for the kinetic one would be that you leave it attached to the truck and you open the tailgate. then the splited logs goes directly to the trunk. Good video!

With that type of splitter you keep the truck hooked up to it. Once the wood splits you throw it in the back of the truck with the tailgate down. Perfect for 1/2 cords.

It’s all I use now and am putting my current hydraulic splitter up for sale this winter. I won’t miss it and haven’t used it for years. A word of caution, never let two people operate a splitter at the same time. It’s a good way for someone to loose fingers.

I had a Wood Wolf kinetic log splitter made in Barnstead NH. It would have Eaten both of these splitters lunch by a long shot. I’d say the best we got out of it was 1 cord in 45 mins with two guys. Plus it was way quieter to run because you didn’t need full throttle unless you were splitting the narlyest wood.

My dad just bought a 34 ton split second splitter. He loves it. The only maintenance he has to do EVER is adjust/tension or change the 2 drive belts and grease or change the pinion gear. Hydraulic splitters you have to worry about seals, hoses bursting, filters to change, and you need to change hydraulic fluid once a year. Prices add up and he paid 3700 for it. He got the cover and log lift. It's the best log splitter he's ever used.

I wouldnt call comparing a commercial unit with a light duty consumer unit quite fair when it comes to commercial use. If that flywheel was twice the size with dot tires and rear wood ejection it would eat the Toros lunch. It also has better fuel economy than the Toro. Blow a hose on the Toro and it's a pain. It wouldn't be too much of an issue to make a pivot model to compete with the Toro. The power flywheel is a much more efficient design and even as a basic consumer model it already splits faster than the Toro which proves its efficiency.

Best time spent, is a table to not let the wood hit the ground between splits. Also, never let the finished splits hit the ground. stack them as they get split. I've proved this to my brother to be alot less work. Rounds go from pickup, down plywood ramp, to table attached to splitter, split, & then to stack. The only thing to hit the ground is tiny splinters.

The Log Ox is fantastic. I’ve used it to pull small stumps and limbs that I’ve accidentally lawn darted from 70’ up using the foot and extension handle. Vertical splitters are the only way to go. I have an Ariens 34 ton that looks to be half the weight of your Toro. The other day I put down a 42” silver maple for a customer and there was no way I was moving those rounds without a machine or splitting. I was able to wiggle the 300 lb chunks into position with a rock bar and the Log Ox. There’s no way anyone is handling anything like that on a horizontal splitter of any kind.

It looks to me like the kinetic is the winner for price, portability, simplicity and speed. I can split with an axe like that on the ground with an axe though. It is the difficult, large green wood where a wood splitter really comes in handy. Most home owners can just rent a splitter to split for a day or two to get that harder stuff done. That vertical setting looks really handy on the hydraulic. I wonder how these machines would compare with a 4 way wedge involved

So something that isn’t addressed here is the hydraulic splitter can handle a multi direction wedge wher the kinetic I don’t think could handle the added resistance

A lot depends on the wood your splitting, some wood splits just looking at it, almost. other woods the only way is shear tonage. The kinetic will not handle knotty wood very well, the hydraulic does a better job. The price of each should be identical to to help get a more even match.

Unfortunately I would take your hydraulic over the power king and I no longer use my hydraulic splitter. I have a supersplit kinetic splitter and it would run circles around the power king. It looks like the power king is grossly underpowered or something is not right. The ram should not bounce back like that once it is engaged. The boys running the powerking also didn't look very safe or understanding of how to effectively split logs using a kinetic splitter. You need to look at the knots and the grain of the wood to be able to fly through the logs. I have yet to find a log that the supersplit can't handle, but that is also with me using the machine properly and understanding where and how to cut each log. Stay safe guys!

🤔🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ Clearly there has been very VERY little experience in the log splitting game amongst these users. 4 seconds in I'm already thinking "who uses a splitter like that?" "why would you put the log in that way?" 😂😂😂 Thanks for the laughs.

You also had 2 operators on the kinetic splitter and 1 with the toro. Operators are expensive.

Too be a true contest each team should have had same amount of wood with different kinds of wood also including the hardest wood of all woods. Lol ;-) was a good show tho.

Why didn't you run the hydraulic horizontal like the kinetic? You took advantage of the vertical capability of it, which puts any horizontal log splitter at a disadvantage for larger logs.

I have about 7 of those toro splitters where I work(local equipment rental company). Theres really only two weak points that I have come across so far. The carriage bolts holding the blade on the slide shear occasionally. Also, the pipe fitting between the cylinder and the hydraulic control block gets busted off. Both problems are more misuse problems than anything else though.

Beside the fact that they don't know how to use the kinetic log splitter... the directions literally say to place the log up against the knife. The way they are doing it takes all the power away from the splitter. They are literally slowing down the kinetic wheel before it even starts to split. Through this video out and try again.

The kinetic splitter has the advantage of your splitting and then loading the wood into the back of the truck.

After watching this I think I will stick with the old 50 year old home made would splitter with the dozer cylinder.
