Here in Canada, we have a lot of big animals, and occasionally they find themselves on the highway. It is important to have a good set of lights so that you can see any possible hazard with enough time to avoid an incident. A good set of headlights can go a long way, but I have always been a fan of some after market additional lighting. This is my first truck with light pods instead of light bars, and I am far more satisfied with pods. They throw a lot of light, and the adjustability is awesome.
Headlights are from ROXX on Amazon, and light pods are from Novsight.

thats probably one of them new fords trying to shine... 😅 i swear ford's daytime running lights are brighter than most vehicle's high beams.. with high beams, go crazy and have lights pointing sideways! but (people are going to hate me for this) there should be a LUMEN limit &/or colour temperature law on low beam & DRL (with some tolerance!) but for instance the blue halogen & LED lights are the worst. you just need to see what's ahead of you, not blind everyone opposing you while you invoke photosynthesis on the nearby foliage 😅 i mean, i drive an old Ford with 4000k high/low bulbs, with 3000k fog lights, very warm lighting for low beam. but then I've got 2 7" LED pods, i think 6000k bright white wired in with my high beam switch. 👌👌 plus a 52" curved light bar on a separate toggle, but i swear i only use it to blind highbeamers. lol. ps. for dustin new subscriber, pretty nice truck build, and cool videos. Good luck to you this summer!

Dustin a few years ago I swapped out the headlights in my 1998 Jeep Cherokee to LED's and during the first blizzard I learned the hard way that LED headlights are an absolute "no-go" in snowy conditions. in my case the LED's did not produce enough heat to keep the headlights free of ice and snow build up. 100 miles from home I had to pull over every 5 minutes to clear the headlights off. I could not see at all! Since then I upgraded the wiring harness as the old one wasn't delivering full voltage to the bulbs. The dim OEM headlights were what prompted me to switch to LED in the first place. With the upgraded harness and now back to OEM style headlights/bulbs my lights are plenty bright and produce enough heat to keep the lenses clear in winter driving conditions. It may be possible to treat your new lenses with something like RainX to mitigate ice/snow build up but after my blizzard experience I will not use LED headlights again in a winter driving vehicle unless the lenses are heated.

Princess Auto and Amazon retail a universal led mounting bracket. They mount on any edge, I’d recommend putting those killer spots on the front corners of the hood nearest the windshield. Thanks for making these incredible videos and allowing us to live vicariously through you.

Street legal pods or light bars in BC are only street legal if wired into high beam switch and mounted level with or below headlights. Or if they are fog lights mounted below headlights and go off with high beams. Highly recommend going away from the LED bulbs if you find the Color not your style. A quality halogen bulb will give the light you like and not completely blind every oncoming vehicle.

You could use the spot lights on the side of the camper for perimeter lights at the campsite - that’s what I did with a spare pair I had. I also had a small light bar that I didn’t want on the front so I mounted it on the back above the door into the camper and I have it on a switch for camp set up and as an off road back up light - really helps see where you are reversing into. Be useful with the boat trailer, I’d think. 👍🏻

Looking cool 😎 That extra spare would come in handy in the back up high on the rig for lighting it up for when you're backing up ! Also wire it inside the camper an extra switch so you can spook 👻 off the Sasquach's and bears 🐻 🐻‍❄ 😆 or any intruders that might happen by ! Looking forward to this weekend buddy ' Aloha

HI Dustin. Suggestion. Take the 4" lights out of the bumper holes and use them on the back. Then install the 2 beam lights you showed in their place. Also, keep in mind using yellow light for fog and snow. they work.

"I seee tha Light!" I do a lot of night driving and one of the things I want to do is mount "Hood Hinge" lights angled to the side and switched individually... this way when driving in dark stretches I can switch the right side on only to illuminate to the side better... I think it would help you also in the back country

‘Ditch Lights’ they call those and I agree they would be useful. I don’t think Dustin’s truck hood has the right hinges for that kind of mount, though - have to make something else up on that. My old 80s Ford works for the hinge mount, though.

Here in BC, you have to have those front facing lights covered if you're on public roads. You can uncover them on Forest Service Roads. I have heard anecdotally that you can wire them into your high-beam control to make them legal but I don't know the specifics on that. Other places may have different laws, so read up before you cross borders (ie. Yukon, NWT, Alaska since you mentioned heading north this summer)

I would keep the pods on a separate switch from the high beams if I was you. The two extras you have can be mounted on your hood corners near the windshield pointed hard left and right uses sort of as search lights or work lights and could be on another separate switch. Look up S-pod or trigger 6 shooter for excellent accessories switching.

I have always liked the PODS, or the original KC LED slimlights for the same reason. I want to aim them where they should be, so I am not just throwing a bunch of light in the same place. To wire into Highbeams, Super easy. IF you are using relays, route the trigger line to get power from the high beam +. Then when you have on your high beams, and the switch is on. Everything comes on. My preferred method. But also allows you the flexibility to have the highs on, and the other’s off when on hwy. If no relays, the + for your switch should come from the + of your high beams.

Given where you like to travel, I'm surprised that you don't have some kind of moose bumper to protect your radiator. I also have a remote place (North of Kenora, Ontario) and I have a massive bumper replacement on my 2011 RAM 1500, because in the case of an animal strike or sliding off the road into a tree, it's a 17km walk to the nearest cell signal. Also replaced my notoriously bad headlight bulbs with 55watt HIDs. I prefer a 6000k (bright white) bulb myself, rather than than the yellowish coloring of a warmer bulb in the 3500k range that comes stock on most cars with incandescent bulbs.

Friendly suggestion: don't wire the pods into your high beams. I did and when I was approaching on-coming traffic i had to go back to low beam far sooner than needed (most tmes leaving me still wanting the high beam visibility for another 500-1000m). I rewired them to a simple on/off switch. No regrets.

You should be able to wire in a relay to control the light pods with the high beams but be sure to have a switch so you can turn that off and just use the high beams. I’ve been seeing a lot of the van conversion mounting lights up on the cowl by the windshield. And PLEASE don’t be like a lot of idiots that are driving around on a clear night with their illegal yellow fog lights on. Many years ago (1970’s) I had several KC Daylighter Pencil Beams (150w) mounted on a fiberglass cover above the cab. Strange driving at night, in the snow with only those on. The snow would stop at the bottom of the beam so it looked like it wasn’t snowing in front of you, you were driving underneath it.

The ultimate light colour is 4300k, it’s been stated that anything above that luminosity drops, although my ridgid fog lights at 5000k seem good for all conditions, when you are in dry conditions light colour doesn’t matter much, it’s on dark rainy nights you don’t want higher than 5000k although my led bulbs on my car are 5800k and night driving in dark rainy conditions are still good, although it’s due to people’s ignorance as to why we see the crazy 6000k plus blue lights, I think anything above 6000k is illegal but I can’t confirm that, all I know is that I threw 6000k bulbs in the garage once because I couldn’t take them back and I couldn’t see on wet dark nights.. let’s hope that your lights look good on dark nights, and for all the people complaining about bright lights at night blinding you.. then stop looking at them, im serious, people don’t realize that they stare at the bright lights instead of looking at the lines in the road, just remember that next time you are encountering bright lights.
