You'd be suprised with the innovation that is happening with earphones right now. Alot of chinese companies are making iems that sound like 100+ dollar earphones you get with mainstream brands, for like 20 bucks. Stuff like salnotes zeroes, tangzu wan'er, qkz x hbb khan. They call it "chi fi".

I bought 7hz timeless a few months back, distanced myself from audio forums for a while because I was in planar audio heaven. Came back and see everything was changed in terms of "hype". Hexa??? HD660s2 ??? Jesus I just came back for a glance and now I want to drop another half a k on gear 😵‍💫

@@evilClive21 The new expensive planar stuff does look tempting. I try to save some money by at least sticking to sound signatures I know I like, its easy to get caught in the monthly hype.

personally rocking the blon bl03, got them for 21 bucks on the blon website right around black friday. I have been so happy with them. I also have the akg n400nc(can you tell i watch crinacle yet) and they're fine but at a fraction of the cost blon's are better and a never have to charge them so i definitely use them more.

@@blinkblik6924 Scratch my previous comment, I've got the timeless over a year now lol, alongside my HD600.but yeah for me my "endgame" still are the hd800s and the only headphone/iem that are tempting for me along the way are the meze 109 pro and IE600

As an audiophile, you did an excellent job with your research and in general respect for the hobby. This vid is a great overview of the entire audio landscape, and not just the super-mainstream landscape. I instantly knew that you did your research when you said and defined IEMs by name. Even huge tech KZfaqrs will still call an $800 pair of IEMs, earbuds. Huge respect from the dedicated audio community.

Something to know about headphones is that they have never gotten better, just more convenient. For example, a pair of stax electrostatics from the 80s or hd600 which is now 26 years old, sound absolutely fantastic, even compared to modern headphones. The hd600s could even be considered one of the best headphones under $500 you can buy today. The improvements in headphones are features such as wireless and noise cancelling.

I'm listening to this video on Powerbeats 4. Bought them secondhand (or refurbished) for a 1/3rd of the price and they have worked quite well for the last year or so. Good profile and I like having a wire around my neck so I don't have to put the headphones in a case. A benefit there is the cable is a part of the ear loop. Hoping I can get more mileage out of them than others I have had in the past.

The general majority seem to prefer the sound of M40X, but 50s can't lose tbh. I have a set of 40s that I've had for years, they make everything sound great. Aiaiai are like adult bionicle headphones and I LOVE THEM - Studio Wireless (S10, H03, C01, vegan synth-leather pads) model - High quality build, and if a part breaks, you can buy replacement parts rather than whole headphones. Hella good quality for closed back, used mainly for gaming with a 3.5+ mic I bought, and for high end wireless 40+ hour listening and wired hyper detailed listening.

Given that I have used and loved AKG K240s, which were first produced in the 70s and HD600s, which were first made in 97, I feel like consumer grade headphones haven’t really changed much. Other features and wireless are a different story, but magnetic driver headphones are pretty much set for the time being

(8:26) It’s me. I’m rocking Shokz (Formerly Aftershokz), the leading brand of bone conduction headphones. What’s cool about these headphones is they don’t block your ears at all. If you have ear drainage, as I do, these can come in handy. It also means you can hear everything around you as you listen. Quality isn’t extremely great, but it’s really notable for open ear headphones, and they’re pretty easy to use Plus, 99% of people assume they’re hearing aids, which means you can get away with listening in class hehe

When I'm VCing friends on Discord, I have an 8 year old gaming headset with mic that still works surprisingly well, both in audio and mic quality. I just don't daily drive them due to the audio being a bit too loud for my tastes. My on-the-go earbuds are a $30 set of Tozo T12. They get the job done. 7.9/10 audio quality, but still good.
