They do say the names very briefly, but even for me, it was a little hard to follow. Flashing the name of the headphones on the screen would have been a stellar addition. I know, editing headache, but worth it for the fans, guys.

If you want an outside perspective, I find this useful because we get to hear the dialogue about the disagreements, as opposed to just hearing separate opinions. It might be worth doing comparisons with fewer models are more contested price points. $200 tier list, $500 tier list, $1000 tier list, etc. Thanks for sharing your opinions.

Wow what a treat! Two of my favorite headphone enthusiasts coming together for a discussion! I have some of the headphones that you have on your list, 58X and 6XX definitely deserve to be up there. It depends on the day which one I prefer. I think for my iPad, I prefer the 58X but for my Valhalla 2, I prefer the 6XX

as a newbie in this hobby, i have literally no clue what the names of these headphones are after a couple of seconds and even if you mention the name or value, it is still to hard to process all the info once the list is ready. I loved the idea thou.

Just 1 thing to remember: Try to listen to your targeted headphone, with your music through the gear that you gonna use it with. The reviews gonna vary from one and of the scale to the other end of the scale. Everybody's ear, experience and expectations are different, and it's only you who knows what you are looking for and what you need. Like the Beyerdynamic T1 3rd generation. Some love it, some are really unimpressed with it for its price. Look up head-fi.org and grab some drink and munchies while going through it.;)) Oh, and what you gonna find watching reviews all over YT after you have owned a couple of headphones that some reviewers will have a similar taste to yours and you can "trust" them better but will not replace your own listening experience. High impedance headphones are harder to drive thus making them less portable. 600ohm and around are best with tube amps and not solid state ones. Just try to listen to the ones that you fancy buying and decide for yourself. Have fun!;))

Given that you also have interesting disagreements, which actually matter for viewers looking to buy higher-end gear, it would be awesome to see a joint-review/rating of TOTL headphones and TOTL iems! Just a suggestion for a future video. You two have great chemistry so hope to see more.

I just grabbed the Sundaras off your collective review. It's amazing, and it's not even burned in yet. I'm running off an Atom DAC/Amp which provides an ample amount of juice to drive the low end for it without any distortion. Out of the box it sounds great without any EQ.

Lovely collab guys. I have a suggestion for the next one. Since everyone has different preferences just brake it down. Give 1-10 for each aspect of sound quality. Like resolution, soundstage, imaging, instrument separation. Then Bass: accuracy, distortion, impact/power, sub bass extension. Mid vocals shout over all instruments or in level with them. Highs are piercing ears or laid back... Etc. So people can choose the pair of headphones which excels in those areas which are important for them. Just create a huge spreadsheet. Lots of expensive stuff up there. I love my Clears and all, but I'm not gonna say 1,4k is awesome value, esp when Elex exists. Good value stuff is mostly under 1k, usually way under. 6xx for 220 bucks is very good value - terrific build, comfort and an easily pleasing sound sig for most folk. Cheers guys!

@@elemeno9463 I don't own 6xx, but had 650 for many years, same hp. Still have HD600. Clear is much more dynamic and resolves better. I don't especially like 650/6xx warmth in the upper bass, makes them a bit too warm for me. 6xx is a very good start and might help you appreciate the 1k headphones more later. Unless you just want awesome phones now and stop there, then go for the Clear by no means. I think they are 1k or under now.

@@elemeno9463 Dynamic meaning you can hear loud things "hit you over the head" so to say more, like drum hits. "Punchy" is a good word for all these similar looking Focals. And yes, with experience one will appreciate the differences more. And higher you go in price the smaller and smaller and maybe even non-existent the difference in quality gets. Haven't heard Elex, but am under the impression they are very good for the money. I have heard Elear, which is the model Elex is based on. I liked 'em very much.

The chemistry you guys have is great. Your headphone list was based on what ? Sound quality for the money (but not really) and there was a dog and a camera overheating. Should have been named hanging out with DMS and Josh. Fun Vid.

Great video, would love to see the same video where you don’t consider price so much because I find it a little confusing as I have a pair of portapros and I am sure they are not as good of a headphone as the Empyrean for example? You should make a set scoring system and make a dynamic tier list that changes as stuff comes out so that we have an always up to date shopping guide like vpntierlist does with vpn ratings.

I was surprised for not having more strong competitors on the 100-250$ list. The DT990 Pro, the DT770, and the HD6XX are really popular headphones with similar impact as HD650 even today. Therefore, despite being a value based list, the majority of the phones will leave you bankrupt. My suggestion would be on each price range, rank the most popular offerings.

These are pretty cool when done with other reviewers as you can really see where your preferences align with a quick video if you've wandered mid fi for awhile. DMS for me.

A bit late to this party... I picked up both the Arya and Clear. I like both of them, and I could live with either of them, though they are very different sounding headphones. Arya bass, transparency, soundstage, and even dynamics, are great. Detail and separation are both very good, too. I am having some challenge with the midrange and high frequencies. I find the midrange tonally thin and less textured, and vocals can be overly sibilant (sibilant sounds are entirely ordinary, they are just problem when they're over emphasized) and the higher frequencies not so much bright or over emphasized but tonally off. The most typical way this shows up is that cymbals don't always sound so natural.

Fun video to watch. Great list. The Sundara seems to be consistently ranked high - but the pair I used to own sounded congested and had high frequency hiss issues - Has anybody else experienced this?

Yes I prefer a tier list where you only do it based off of sound quality. As long as you include options at every price point we get to know where everything stacks up. Also interested in the best Bass focused headphones now that the fostex Ebony's are gone

Because of this video, I went into a local HiFi shop, heard the Focal Clear and was blown away. After 30 minutes I bought them for < 1000 Euro new. I think these are my endgame. I will keep 660s because they are still great, light and super comfortable. Everything else I do not care, will be sold.

I had the chance to test the Arya vs the LCD-2 Classic in the quiet comfort of my study. DMS was right. The Arya is over-rated. The mids are rather lean and left you wanting. While the spacious sound stage is nice, it could not make up for the lack of the midrange fullness. The LCD-2 Classic beats it any day, sounding sweeter, fully and more enjoyable!

I would love o see where the Ananda rates on the list given it's huge and growing following, the fact that it's regularly compared to the Clear and Arya (both 2.3x the cost), comfort, and value at $700.

I like my HD58X, But I have to agree with DMS that the 6XX gives you a whole lot more for not much more, partly because it is a higher impedance headphone and Scales up a lot higher on higher end equipment than the 58x does

I have a DT 1990 and DT 990/600 and the last one deserves more love. The DT 880/600 is amazing, but the 990 is way more fun.

Proviso: subscribed to both of you - and both have been crucial to all the headphones I've purchased; however, why (oh why) do you not have the headphones included in each tier written somewhere? I want to use this wonderful ratings scema as I guide, but the only way is for me to watch it over and over again to write down each headphone by category (and all I really want is the A-tier and I'd be happy). Please consider doing this (or just advising me where it already exists). Thanks.

I was actually excited when you guys started to talk about good headphones for people with bad hearing. I have really bad hearing from years of working around turbine engines. It's made me really enjoy bass heavy headphones because I have a much easier time hearing bass. My problem is I want something better quality then my first gen Beats Studios or Corsair HS70's. But all I seem to hear is that audiophile headphones don't have the powerful bass those have (yes I know it's muddy) without spending a fortune. I really liked the price HD58x but I hear in a lot of reviews they lack bass, got excited about the SHP9600 but it sounds like they have the same problem. I would really appreciate some help. I would like open back as they are going to be used primarily for gaming, but I'm not totally opposed to closed back if a good argument can be made for some.

Surprised DMS doesn't like the Arya. I was prepared to return it to Amazon right away if I didn't like its sound signature but its great.
