What a coincidence, I bought yesterday Headspace Absinthe. Loved it the moment i sprayed it. Bitter absinthe on a sugar. Lovely work.

Absinthe does feel like it needs to be stretched more vertically, to have something shine into the heart notes to give contrast and more depth. Despite that I bought a small bottle and find that it breathes very naturally and is a bit addictive despite it's simplicity. Very wearable. I have a weakness for green aromatic leathers though. Tubereuse as well I appreciate simply for feeling like a refined and more natural Jasmin et Cigarette. I have a hard time forming an opinion on these because they're uncomplicated, and fall into a loosely defined category of modern, "minimal" fragrances that have one focus and not much variation from their central aroma. Sometimes that means it's a single accord, sometimes they're a bit more layered. I think another brand that evokes this similar reaction is Matiere Premiere, but ironically the problem there is overuse of synthetics as the primary olfactive focus. Regardless, I still find releases from both houses unique when it comes down to the details. I've tried a few "absinthe" themed fragrances, and I liked this one. Same with tuberose. I dislike a number of spiced amber leathers, but enjoyed Falcon Leather. Is that what "modern" is becoming? Disowning a lot of the flourishes typically attached to these accords? Again I like the result about a quarter of the time, and the other times it comes off derivative. Maybe I'm off in that whole analysis though. Soliflores have been around for a long time, and "minimal" doesn't always translate to flat and devoid of nuance.

I actually got a full bottle of Tubereuse as I find it to be a Tuberose that can be worn by a man with its green and smoky accents. Yes, it is not the most complex scent in the world, however I do get very good performance out of that one.

I was considering the sample set just for the tuberose (I love the headspace of real tuberose blooms) but good to know it's something else. The perfume copywriting is really terrible and funny. Also the best part of the sampling experience.
