My old man was a Rosegrove driver in steam and diesel days. I was 7 years old and i went to Healey Mills from Rosegrove with empties and bring a full load of coal back for the power stations in Lancashire. All loosed coupled over Copy Pit. Great days.

I was lucky 🍀 enough to have spent many a Sunday afternoon at Healy Mills yard in the late 70s 😊 I lived in Urmston and ride my Honda CB250 do I could watch the trains as well as other yards in the area 👍🏻 What a shame it’s all gone 😢 It could of made a fantastic rail conected distribution centre 🤔

I spent many an hour here as a Freight Guard at Guide Bridge......nearly always when it was dark as most of our work was at night.

Personally i think it would have been nice to have been asked whether my pictures could be included in this video clip, or even a credit provided in the description

If we hadn't joined the EEC in the 70s and still used coal (like we should be), we'd still have a British Rail and a British Railway industry. Being from West Sussex (6 miles from Gatwick), it was a trek to get anywhere decent to go "spotting". Back in the late 70s I went to Healey Mills in late Jan, early Feb, can't remember exactly. We finally got there, sat at top of a hill looking down on the yard and it started snowing ! What a great place. All our great depots and yards have gone, it's a total disgrace. Stratford in east London was a great place for me to visit, now all it is, is a football stadium for a dubious football team. Some excellent pictures here of a sad railway system. Btw, the plural of city is cities, not city's. Just saying.

Yet another marshalling yard condemned to the graveyard. Some people lament steam engines, but I really miss the hustle and bustle of all those marshalling yards. Tinsley, Toton, etc.
