We have had that in Australia for our House of Representatives since 1918, but we call it preferential voting. Seems to serve us well and there is more potential for independent and minor party representatives. As of our last federal election, our House of Reps consists of a governing 2 party coalition (78 members), an opposition (54 members) BUT there are also 12 Independents and 6 members from minor parties.

I am a Jamaican/Canadian, who has lived in the UK for over 10 yrs. I have also lived in The Cayman Islands and in Bermuda. If I was an American, there is NO way that I would be voting for Donald Trump, or the Republican Party. Trump is truly a dangerous person, along with Putin, North Korea, China, Hamas in Palestine, and a great number of the Arab world. I trust I am not in this world when this happens. Prayers for Peace

I just recently came upon The 92nd Street Y about a week or so ago and I have watched different discussions and people from legal analysts to politicians as well as a few folks from MSNBC (who I watch often, despite not being an American). I have sat through probably 5 hours or more and at times will rewind to hear things a second time because they ring so true and are profound. I don't have the wits about me presently to articulate how more than important I feel this conversations are and have been. I will say that I am riveted, they are important, they are so civil and good human beings who can disagree ...as it should be...but ultimately they want what is best for the country, it's people and their freedom. THANK YOU for bringing these forums to us and I truly truly wish and hope more people will tune in and get a true picture of what is at stake. I have seen David Jolly often(always a delight) and of course Jamie Raskin. I don't know Steve Israel but I think I would like him. A bit of history to tell you WHY I am so engaged, perhaps more than I want to be, in Americans and the politics. I've never been a political 'junkie' until I heard, thought it was a joke, but heard in 2016 that the guy who is...ok, the former guy...was winning an election for the President of the USA But it was the 2020 election that I felt I had to be involved and learn and understand. I will never forget the moment I sat in front of the TV and saw the insurrection take place. I'll never forget the feeling I had and knew at that moment it was a different ally we had and a different 'world' than I knew. I have friends who are Americans and I care about people. I think what I ultimately hope and pray for (one of which I will not say) is justice and to eventually see civility and humanity return. I feel frustrated that everyone in the US doesn't read, listen and really truly be true to themselves. Wow, I guess I am on a tangent but bottom line, please keep these good guys in power and let their voices and words be heard!!! Really heard. Thank you so much to this panel, an intelligent articulate group who really truly care!

An addition to my previous very long comments. I have followed and learned SO much in the past years which not being American was sometimes confusing and complicated but essential in my mind so that I could really understand. I will give a shout out to Jamie Raskin and his battle, his intelligence and fighting strength. I would also like to mention Glenn Kirschner and Justice Matters as well as a few others who have kept me informed. When I heard the comment about Americans not following or getting into an election until after labor day I was shocked. Here I am following intently as this is probably the most important election and democracy is at stake! I hope people will get involved and don't not vote. To not vote because they are Republicans but don't want t rump to me is not a reason to stay home. Vote for the President who will work and continue to work for saving America and who really truly cares about it's people, not about himself. Yes I do mean Joe Biden and yes I am a liberal but even if I wasn't I would vote for the best for my country and that, in my humble opinion is certainly not a man who is only running to avoid facing trials and who wants to end democracy and worse...align with people like Putin. He does not care about people and all one has to do is listen to him lie and then lie again all the while not talking policy, not talking any sense even. Basically from what I've seen, he is using it aa a platform to tear down any decency...who would do that other than a person who doesn't know decency, kindness and humanity. I feel fear at the mere idea of him winning in Nov. fear for the USA and for the people.

In 16th century in Scotland it was said ‘ all political authority belonged to the people, who came together to elect someone, whether a king or magistrates, to manage their affairs. The people were always more powerful than the rulers they created; and they were free to remove them at will’. Here was a powerful democratic formula - government of the people and for the people.

23:14 many large corporations are making HUGE profits, while at the same time paying their employees so poorly many full-time workers qualify for government aid.
