Volk's decision to take the Islam rematch on 11 days notice was a horrible decision even with the benefit of hindsight and sadly it came back to haunt him here. Had Volk fought Topuria later last year (after the Yair fight) and Topuria got the win like this anyway, he would have gotten full, deserved credit for the win. As a Volk fan it hurts to see one of my favourite fighters lose everything because he was too ambitious and stubborn for his own good.

It hurt Volks own career directly with brutal knockouts, and it hurt Islam + Topuria's career because they don't get the respect they properly deserve for actually going out there and performing their best. Yeah, you think he fights exclusively south paw the next fight ? He was leaning back to his left when he got right hooked (power side of Illia). Volk tried a tai clinch up against the fence in the first or second round but that might be too dangerous against illia. I think when Volk gets backed up, he’s gotta try to get a clinch going instead of purely backing up. He literally backed all the way up into a corner where he had no where to move sadly.

Yeah, volk had never faced someone with illia's style before, hes used to fight someone bigger than him, capitalizing his opponents opening to come inside and do some exchanges but ilia is just as small as volk and his guard is tight, so there is little to no opening there for volk (ilia style kinda reminds me a little bit of petr yan). Volk need to change his rhythm and style if he wants a rematch otherwise he'll get knocked out again
