Hearing aid styles range from completely invisible-in-the-canal, to large and powerful behind-the-ear devices.
There's a lot to consider as you think about what type or style of hearing aid might be right for you. Some of these factors include your hearing loss, budget, cosmetic preferences, and features desired. Your local hearing care provider will help you determine which style will best meet your needs.
It's important to note that each style has it's pros and cons- it's advantages and disadvantages. Making sure you're fully aware of the capabilities (or shortcomings) of the hearing aid style you choose, is vitally important to ensuring your long term success and happiness with hearing aids.
In this video I'll provide a brief overview of the most popular styles, along with the pros and cons of each style, and hopefully give you some things to think about.

Thank you so much for this very helpful video my question, is there a problem for kids (4 years old) to use the RIC? I got some feedback say that we should not use RIC for kids but use the BTE

BTEs are more durable (harder to break), but a child can wear a RIC, there's no reason why they can't.

Some hearing aids say that they’re a non amplifying hearing aid. What does non amplifying mean? How is that different from an amplifying hearing aid. Thanks

Can you swim with the IIC ones that don't come off 24/7? What happens with these hearing aids if you frequently go to loud places (clubs, bars etc) or DJ with headphones too - do you have to take them off there so you don't destroy your hearing completely by further amplifying already loud sounds?

Hi there, you are referring to Lyric, I believe: www.phonak.com/us/en/support/product-support/hearing-aids/lyric.html. To the best of my knowledge, they don't recommend swimming with them. As far as amplifying loud sounds, they can be set so there's a "cut off" point at which they stop amplifying, talk to your provider about this- OR, you can manually turn them down in those environments.

@@Ziphearing Hey there - thanks for your very prompt reply. Actually I have no idea what I'm referring to lol - I've never worn hearing aids before. I'm just browsing around and trying to figure out what would be best for me. One thing is for sure - I don't want anyone to be able to see them if i'm wearing them, so from my browsing I (think I) understand that the only type that cannot be seen are IIC. Right? Then I saw these Virto B-Titanium (or just Virto B), then I saw these other ones called signia silk nx (these supposedly don't need the whole customization process). Then I saw X then Y then Z and so forth. So I am completely confused. I cant understand if they all have to come off (if I swim or shower or sleep or need to clean them or recharge them). If the IIC type (if they are the only invisible ones) need recharging (or even if they can be recharged), And also what I am supposed to do WHILE DJing or just being in a loud (club-loud) environment. Do I take them off so as to not cause further/deeper/irreparable damage? And if I do have to take them off in loud environments (even just at a loud restaurant), then I'll be back to square one (being the annoying person of my group of friends that everyone has to speak louder so that I can make their voices out from the background noise/music... I'm so confused..

can you keep them on when you go to bed/sleep with any of these models

That is going to be a tough question to answer, but I will certainly try! Ultimately, your ability to sleep in a hearing aid is going to come down to your level of comfort with your head on a pillow and a device in your ear. Personally, I could NEVER sleep with a hearing aid...its just not comfortable for me. Your situation could be very different. Furthermore, if you wear them while you sleep, you lose some of the best time to charge your devices so that they provide the aid you need during the day. Thank you for a great explanation and demo. However, the initials used for these devices are initialisms, not acronyms. Acronyms form words, such as PIN (personal identification number) and BOGO (buy one get one). These initials do not form words. I taught high school English from 1970 - 1990 (now in need of a hearing aid), so I just couldn't let this grammar lesson go ;-)
