At the part where you first tell Emet and friends your story and he gets angry and storms out, then later tells you that the convocation are trained in detecting deception - he knew the WoL was telling the truth, so he wasn't getting angry at the WoL, he was angry at himself because despite his best efforts he wasn't able to save his people

///Spoilers ahead for up to Elpis's end of story\\\ There's more. Think about his pride, and how it's shattered after hearing all of what he did. It's all the more poignant when we see the last time Emet-Selch and Hythlodaeus speak before Emet's best friend is sacrificed to Zodiark, just as we said would happen. And he will not remember what he'll resort to. He won't remember that he'll do things that are abhorrent to his people and the meaning returning to the star means in their society. All Emet is left with is the cold, shattered memories of the past. A past that he relived for a thousand, thousand life times. Watching those Venat shattered into fourteen pieces scurry about, like rats to him. This story shows Emet at a time before he surrendered to sophistry arguments himself, despite him accusing Hermes of it. That mankind no longer held the same potential as the ancients is incorrect. Because we have to struggle for our happiness, we cherish it. We do not mourn it the same way that the ancients did. Instead of accepting their pain, they tried to shield themselves from it. Tried to drown out the sorrow to return to their paradise. Venat, unable to convince anyone of the truth of things, did the only thing that she could. Learning that so many other civilizations made the mistake of trying to obtain a form of perfection, Venat did the only thing that she could: she broke our Icarus wings before we could even make them and forced mankind to grow strong for their own sake. That's how I see it.

By the way, it is really interesting that it was mentioned that anyone on the Convocation could tell when someone is lying. Therefore, emet knew from the start that you weren’t lying- and that’s the actual reason he was distraught - he knew you were telling the truth
@GamerFlair
@GamerFlair 2 жыл бұрын
I think its not quite as simple as that. He knew that you weren't lying but that in and of itself doesn't mean what I am saying is true. Someone who is crazy that believes something will not appear to be lying because they aren't. Whilst the lying thing may play a small part in it, I think its just the fact that whilst he immediately baulks at the idea of him acting like that... as he states himself, all that time, alone... the depair that would wrought on a man. Its his intelligence and understanding of himself that makes him realise that despite it seeming ridiculous he would ever act that way, he also appreciates the devestation such events would have on him.
@arseniykorchevskiy1564
@arseniykorchevskiy1564 2 жыл бұрын
@@GamerFlair I mean the only way to get around the lying thing would be to basically speak without saying anything, but what we told him wasn't just blabber, it was a pointed story about specifically what happens in the future, and he knows that if you aren't lying, it has to be the truth
@GamerFlair
@GamerFlair 2 жыл бұрын
@@arseniykorchevskiy1564 He knows that we believe what we are saying is the truth. That doesn't mean it actually IS the truth. To tell a lie to to state something you KNOW is untrue. If what you know is wrong, you can say something factually incorrect, without telling a lie. Hermes, Emet and Hytho can all state Meteion was destroyed, without triggering any lie detection for anyone. Even though that is a clearly false statement. Because they believe that they saw her destroyed. Its not a lie, as thats what they remember. He knows you aren't lying, but theres multiple reasons for why you might believe that story despite it being false. Not Lying doesnt automatically equal the actual truth.

@@sleepythemis I think that one of the FF14 writing team's greatest strength (and very underappreciated) is their ability to take mistakes or errors from the past and work it into their current stories. The Morse Code from the Crystal Tower is one example, as is how the devs worked in the FF14 Legacy trailer into Endwalker. I think one of the best examples of this is how they worked the Shadowkeeper into the story. She shows up in the FF14 Legacy trailer as one of the dark-skinned Elezen, and had been intended to be one of the Warriors of Light. However, there was a miscommunication where the team doing the trailer thought that SHE was the Elezen BLM, who was supposed to be a male Elezen. As such, she ended up being left behind as one of those things that had been abandoned in the story in the switch between Legacy and 2.0. At least until we got to Shadowbringers, when you can see her back with the Warriors of Light from the First as a party member in the flashbacks we get from the Role Quests.

I think the important thing here is that Hermes has _not_ lost his mind. He's not gone crazy. He's made a moral determination based on the evidence before him, using the tools he has used in judgment of other life forms. That's part of the tragedy of his arc - he's not _wrong,_ exactly, even if he isn't _right,_ either

Agree on that outlook. This reminds me of Ichinose Kuon from Persona 5 Strikers. Kuon desires to know what a "heart" mean, due to the masses finding her "wierd". The creation of EMMA base code to a genius engineer, creating it as a lifestyle app, but also secretly a revenge tool, capable of mass cognition time-space distortions. Due to those factors, Kuon take it as humanity desires eternal escapism from mistreatment, resulting in a huge time-space distortions. However, this outlook not only endangers humanity's mass mentality, directing to self destruction, but also likely render the past generations Persona teams efforts to protect the futures down the drain/useless. This is taking into mind despite each generation battles being different in terms of methods/themes/executions/domains, they are still interconnected in terms of Jungian Psychology.

The scene really hit home the moment Venat was walking down the path she had chosen. Answers is a song that I can always feel the emotions behind. It's truly the song and that scene with Bahamut that got me into the game. The way they used the lyrics to tie into the cries of the people Amaurot and how it pushed Venat to make her choice brings life and a whole new layer to the songs meaning; _"Thy life is a riddle, to bare rapture and sorrow._ _To listen, to suffer, to entrust unto tomorrow._ _In one fleeting moment, from the land doth life flow._ _Yet in one fleeting moment, for anew it doth grow."_ *_"In the same fleeting moment, thou must live, die, and know."_* Those lyrics alone coupled with the questions Fandaniel poses to the universe is what made me truly fall in love with Endwalker.

I had an additional personal reason, with those scenes: The first time I saw the ARR movie I cried upon seeing Louisoix's final facial expression as the scene fades to white... because it and he so resembled one of our best friends who died of cancer, who we used to D&D game with, who was a very good man and would have done exactly as Louisoix did, in those same circumstances... and would have faced his imminent death with that same smile, knowing he'd saved the fighters for the future. Sigh. It was uncanny, how much Louisoix looked like our friend in that moment. I was immediately hooked, and couldn't sign into the game fast enough. As for the scene symbolizing the millennia Venat has endured as the living heart of Hydaelyn... yes. She suffered WITH her "children" and continued to walk on in hope, to give hope to THEM. I also think someone above was right when they said the times in that walk when there was a jolt and Venat would stagger and then be more covered in blackened blood and be staggering more, were meant to represent each Calamity in which she suffered as countless millions died: a physical blow to her that did an abrupt worsening of her condition. And yet, she walked on---for us, for her children, for hope, hanging on as she wanted us to hang on and to keep walking forward. A lot is said at times in the different expansions about how the WoL (and at times others like the Scions) keep going in order to encourage those who come later to follow in their footsteps... but here we confront the fact that Venat/Hydaelyn was the first to do so. The WoL never stopped fighting and faced enormous suffering from one life to the next... and each time it was new to them, because "new lifetime" and not remembering their prior lives (although the soul might well remember at its most basic level, getting that knowledge up to the current conscious mind likely acts more through feelings and resolves rather than actual memories, during each lived lifetime). Yes the WoL endured numerous lifetimes of fighting the same fight over again, continuing to try to lead humanity forward and forever striving to be a beacon of hope... but Venat/Hydaelyn's sacrifice was in one long continuous flow of the same, with never a respite of "periods of time spent resting in the Aetherial sea." Venat/Hydaelyn never got a moment's rest from her own continuous walk forward into a future she hoped would happen, walking into uncertain future with an unswerving belief in humanity's ability to rise above. And she did it all for love... for love of us all, and for love of all creation. It's like ten thousand years of childbirth. It boggles the mind, her unswerving dedication to ensuring that humanity and all life continued to exist and to grow in love and understanding, and finding a purpose within that.

Here's some answer or little details of which Quazii at present time might already have known (unless he got Kairos'd) but I'll still type in anyway. 17:37 "I only need to {Hear} your words. share your {Feel}ings. and know your {thought}s. - Hear, Feel, Think. 50:04 Who is current Azem - you, before the sundering, of course. 1:27:00 - hena, dyo, tria, pente, deca-pente etc. are modern greek/latin numerical based system. as 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 15th and so on 2:01:10 - the whole cutscene shown the sequence of before and after Zodiark were summoned. - Hythlodaeus was part of the "first sacrifice" to summon Zodiark. that's why he's still in Zodiark and met WoL on the moon at present day. - Venat issue is that she oppose the idea of "second sacrifice" for Zodiark to revert the star to paradise as it was. she become Hydaelyn and fought Zodiark then sundered him together with the star and its people. - After the sundering, Hydaelyn got hit every time the world rejoined (as you can see she get injured again and again because of Zodiark struggle to breaks her seal). while walking through darkest passage depicted as time moving forward to the end. as the star and its people struggle to find meaning in life with shorten life. and a will to live on.

As Venat said before you left Elpis, she will walk with you until the end, which is exactly what she did. Through all the suffering and pain she wrought from The Sundering, constantly moving forward no matter how much her power waned or how badly she was hurt by the rejoining. When you were stumbling forward towards Emet, despite your soul literally breaking into pieces, she was still watching you and moving forward with you. The Amaurot scene was more metaphorical, imo. It showed a timeline of events in a short time, from the beginning on the Final Days, to Hytholdeus being sacrificed with half of mankind, to the despairing fools clinging the past and willing to sacrifice even more of their own people in a misguided attempt to bring back a world now gone. Either the Sundering shown wasn't meant to be taken literally or it wasn't the moment of Sundering at all, as we know from Emet that there was a battle between Hydalaen and Zodiark which lead to it and it required others to bring Hydalaen into being. Venat didn't do it on her own. And the way the scene wove lyrics and themes from Answers into her speeches still blows my mind. The song takes on a completely different meaning that somehow hits harder than ever. It's like the song becomes her Answer to Hermes' question.

What incredible ambition from Ishikawa to blend some of the highest of high fantasy concepts with an emotional core that's so intrinsically natural and human. This sort of thing is my favorite utilization of fiction as a form of storytelling. The element of the human experience heightened to an operatic degree. That scene with Hermes next to the Elpis flowers especially. Everyone can relate to those feelings of self-doubt and loneliness. But to push an empathetic response through the almost comedically tragic scenario of a man who is truly the only person to know sorrow, and to be made to feel lesser for feeling thus, it is heartbreaking to me. And to then add the touch of your pain, your darkness, serving as the beacon of light and hope to those who are most alone. What a delicate, beautiful way to approach the subject! I truly hope that youth-targeted stories that deal with these sorts of themes become more common place. I constantly caught myself thinking of so many people who could've used a tale such as this at a younger age to better learn how to process feelings they would encounter only more often in adulthood.

Interesting thought on Meteion. She's the opposite of the stereotypical evil AI. That is so interesting, had not made that correlation, speaks volumes of the writing staff handling this story not only like plot, characters and mcguffins, but a multilayered approach, splashed with tidbits and nuggets of reflection on old tropes and the human condition. Also threating philosophical, metaphisical and moral themes in such a manner is what makes it philosophically and moraly relevant. This Zodiark arc of the story, to me, is a triumph over nihilism in storytelling. Since the endsinger is basically the embodiment of nihilism.

"Thou Shalt Live, Die, and Know" is easily my favorite cutscene of the entire game, by a long shot. I can't imagine the desolation, the loneliness Venat/Hydaelyn must have felt over the eons. Emet-Selch at least had Lahabrea and Elidibus to accompany him on his long journey. Venat had no one and nothing to sustain her but her own conviction and her memories of the future Warrior of Light. I actually did predict Meteion being the source of it all, though I didn't know exactly how it would happen. IMO it was obvious because she was incredibly pure and innocent and as soon as we found out she was an empath I knew she was somehow the source of the corrupting Akasa/Dynamis. Her innocence made her super impressionable, and I frankly had expected her to transform as she was giving her initial report instead of after Ktysis Hyperboreia because of her psychic connection to her sisters. Kairos, on the other hand, took me completely by surprise. A very clever way to maintain what would otherwise be shattered continuity.

I felt so sorry for Meteion the same way I did for Venat. For a entelechy (basically a hyper-empath) to absorb combined despair of multiple civilizations... imagine the mental and existential pain that would've caused them. Of course Hermes created Meteia with best intentions, which makes it even more tragic.

I couldn't help but notice the parallels between the "Golden Path" of Frank Herbert's Dune series and Hydaelyn's path for mankind. Especially the similarities between Leto II and Venet. Both transformed themselves to shepherd man to a better future, committing atrocities in the process.

I really like how pretty much everyone questioned if she was really on our side or not and this zone finally answered the question in spectacular fashion with that last cutscene.

I remember when Dynamis was released in FF11 which was like a void zone of the current zone, such fun times in that raid. Also seeing all the Chains of Promathia mobs were really nostalgic in Enwalker.

As far as what I liked about this part of the game...well, I loved everything. Elpis was the Utopian world you never want to leave. And it made me feel that way even more so because of the characters of that world and time. All these living and breathing characters that our familiarity with only extended to their name showing up in dialogue, phantoms of an imagined city, or what they became after the Final Days. To see them smiling and interacting with us...it brought a smile to my face. It was a treat to behold. And while I knew the story would soon take me away, I didn't want to leave. This short time with them, made me fall in love with them and their world. It was happiness with a hint of melancholy, because I knew what would happen to them all. And what a strong cutscene that last cutscene was. I can't figure out if all that blackness that slowly started to cover Hydaelyn was the darkness growing from all the rejoinings, or if it was symbolic of her taking the despair and sorrow from worlds and peoples that she sundered...the people who now ask why they must suffer...unto herself.

I love that Endwalker have many Dialogues that changes based on your character Race 🤠. Anyways, Elpis is the best zone by far, at entrance when Emet-Selch give to us a look and then turn back to the recepctionist it was enough to make me cry so hard that i had to stop playing for a couple of minutes to recovery my breath, such scene did hit me so hard, Elpis MSQ and Exploration as a whole i was crying or almost crying every single moment.

Also, about the memory - after WoL defeats Emet at the end of 5.0, Emet reclaims the lost memory and that's why he helped us during the battle against Elidibus at the end of 5.3.

I remember being so happy during the sparring match with Venat. No rage or sadness on either side, just warriors showing off what they have learned. Thematically of course, it's supposed to mirror the duel with Zenos.

The thing that really got me about this section of the MSQ was knowing that Emet-Selch would have his erased memories returned to him when he dies (as was also foreshadowed cleverly during a trip to Old Sharlayan)... and, thus, we know that he's probably NOW fully aware of the whole picture, and from the aetherial sea will see his interactions with the WoL throughout the Shadowbringers expansion in a whole new context. It really reinforces the tragedy of his personal story.

Watching this again, it's fully dawned on me the significance of Emet-Selch's quest to save his people and bring them back those that were sacrificed to create Zodiark. His fanatical fervor was because it was especially personal for him. He was trying to bring back Hytholadeus. His best friend. Who sacrificed himself to enact his plan (as a member of the convocation).
@Kag001
@Kag001 2 жыл бұрын
Not just Hytholadeus, but Azem too. Remember, by this time, Azem has had a huge argument with the Convication/Emet disagreeing with Zodiark's and Hydaelyn's summoning and had left the council. So not only did he lose one of his best friends in sacrifice to Zodiark but he had a huge argument with the other who left and then was sundered by Hydaelyn.

3:39 I just realized that this is when he remembered his adventure with us in Pandaemonium. Also, dynamis is the lore explanation for limit break bar. Also, if you go with trust, Venat can be PLD, WHM or DNC, Emet can be DRK or BLM, and Hythlodaeus is a BRD (since he has great vision to see openings)

Song: "Flow," composed by Masayoshi Soken, sung by Amanda Achen. I think Meteion's power as an empath gave it away for me that Hermes and Meteion were involved in the Final Days. I think it's symbolic Meteion represents a bluebird, which is a harbinger of happiness in many cultures. While this may not be a time loop, in the Wikipedia page on time loop, Japan is the only country whose culture has a specific section devoted to it. It is a familiar trope in Japanese games and especially anime. It began with the 1965 Japanese novel, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time.
