Let's just face it - Nancy is one of the world's truly great guitarists. Like many others, she is far underrated by the critics, but not by those of us who really appreciate guitar and music in general. As for Ann. Well, like Nancy, Ann is also underrated. Her voice is pure gold. The album Dreamboat Annie is just a demonstration of Ann's talent and skill.
@jdmensing2 жыл бұрын
I don't understand the need to say everything is "underrated". Heart is one of the most successful and well-known bands of their era and the Wilson sisters are highly regarded. Who has given them a "low rating"?

Are you aware this song is not on Dreamboat Annie?

I cannot disagree..for those of us Oldsters, I'm 64, the 70's and 80's was my wheelhouse of music, the two best decades for music..I saw Heart in 1983 at the Concord Pavillion in Concord California.

Ann is not underrated! Such an idiotic statement. If anything in this day and age, she is OVERRATED.

Nancy is a really good guitarist-I wouldn't call her great though. Not by a long shot. I doubt she could play Roger Fisher's licks in "Magic Man".

Wow! I was at this video shoot! Haven't seen this in years. I remember it being really hot in the room where they were filming. They were using smoke machines and after awhile everyone was dying of thirst. They actually had no water to give us, so Ann got into one of their coolers and started handing out beers. She gave me one and I wasn't 21 yet so I thought that was really cool. LOL! It was a really fun day.

Vocalist no. Ann's greatest strength was talking a song and making it hers. She for the most part only took songs that fit what she could do vocally. Now that's not a bad thing. It's very smart. Do what you do best. Ann was always doing her, not someone else. Ann has a great rock voice I'd say. There would be no many in front of her if any. Heart was best at sounding the same live or studio. Not many group can say that. I'm betting none of the female no talents of today could pull it off. WAY over autotuned.

Seriously. I'm glad we can't see into the future...that would be horrible to know that there will be a day when music, which was a more significant part of most people's lives (just by the majority paying serious attention to all the incredible music coming out, decade after decade (I was born in '64). Music back then reflected our lives as a population, and for the 1st 35 years of my life, music "changed" me. It changed us...it was so impacting, it influenced our baseline perspective on life as a whole. Just my stance on it, anyway. At 10-12 years old, my best friend and I would skateboard down the the local Sav-On almost daily to just sit on the floor of the magazine isle and basically read the latest Circus (rock musician's magazine) issue cover to cover. Circus and Rolling Stone. And in remembering that, I'm reminded of how excited we were to listen to, see, talk about, learn about our favorite bands. It was a major part of us kids' thought-life. Kids in general today aren't doing anything of the sort anymore. There are some "moderately enjoyable" songs still coming out, but I'm betting most would agree that there's no music coming out anymore that goes straight to the depth of our souls when we listen to it. A good song to day is likely one that's just fairly "catchy" as far as an upbeat rhythm. But creativity is *long gone* (has been for 20 years; songs coming out today don't sound that much different than those released 15-20 years ago. Character. Listen to anything that made the top 100 on the singles charts between 1950 and 1990, especially by about '65 through '80...and you might find that it doesn't sound like any other song. Songs back then each had their own highly individual, unique character. No other big hit from the '70s produces the same feeling as Even It Up. No other song grooves quite like it. Songs back then were loaded with individual character and "feel". Today, if I listen to 10 songs on 103.9 (Alternative station here in CO Springs), 4 or 5 are going to have a very similar feel to them. Being that they're not really the product of strong and dramatic inspiration (from the awesomeness of life), but more so the product of the band having a good day while playing together, having composed a song that might just be "fitting" to play on the radio. And now...a little something from a highly influential figure on the scene in the late '70s, helping to inspire what would develop into New Wave and Punk...Elvis Costello: I was tuning in the shine on the late night dial Doing anything my radio advised With every one of those late night stations Playing songs bringing tears to my eyes I was seriously thinking about hiding the receiver When the switch broke 'cause it's old They're saying things that I can hardly believe They really think we're getting out of control Radio is a sound salvation Radio is cleaning up the nation They say you better listen to the voice of reason But they don't give you any choice 'cause they think that it's treason So you had better do as you are told You better listen to the radio I wanna bite the hand that feeds me I wanna bite that hand so badly I want to make them wish they'd never seen me Some of my friends sit around every evening And they worry about the times ahead But everybody else is overwhelmed by indifference And the promise of an early bed You either shut up or get cut up; they don't wanna hear about it It's only inches on the reel-to-reel And the radio is in the hands of such a lot of fools Tryin' to anesthetize the way that you feel Radio is a sound salvation Radio is cleaning up the nation They say you better listen to the voice of reason But they don't give you any choice 'cause they think that it's treason So you had better do as you are told You better listen to the radio

Great song, one of their most underrated hit songs of their career, the classic rock stations don't seem to play this song as often as their other hits

@@billybandyk0720 @Doobie1975 no kidding, this is one of the best Rock songs ever. Ann's voice is something else.

@@RichardBrenkley U betcha, Rich. Another thing that I like about "Even It Up"; the bass player (Mark Andes, who previously played w/Firefall & Jo Jo Gunne). He fits the mold of "underr8d".

One of my very favorites by this classic act. The added punch of the horn section had my own right right away!
