Two amazing things related to this song: 1) Nancy was sick when she sang the initial vocal and they kept it because it sounded raw in a soulful way. 2) A 22 y/o super fan was allowed in the studio when the song was recorded as it was her dying wish that Heart honored. That young girl passed shortly after and she was noted on the album credits. Amazing song and amazing band.

+Alejandro Rojas Actually the word "cheesy" does have a negative connotation. I googled the word and this is what I got (the second meaning) - (informal) - "cheap, unpleasant or blatantly inauthentic." None of those adjectives can be applicable to these Power Ballads if one is a fan.

That summer, I had decided to quit doing drugs, since I hadn't left the ghetto for California (after a college education) to end where I started. Living in Berkeley, after the most significant heartbreak of my life, I felt like life was over and I realized that the big problem in the relationship was our drug use. I decided to quit and have one last hurrah all by myself. With a 12 pack of beer and several joints, I drove to the top of the Berkeley Hills and looked over the Bay Area, playing a tape of this song on an endless loop. It reflected so much about my lost love, my life and the unbelievably extreme pain I felt over it. "Over and over, under a full moon, I drank and smoked, trying to burn my grief to the ground as this song played endlessly on. I have no memory of the trip down and I can only be amazed that I made it back without driving off the road. The month's withdrawal was horrible, of course, and I nearly died. If a friend of mine hadn't come to town to surprise me for my birthday ( thank God he had keys) found me comatose and brought me around, my story would have ended right there in my bed. It took months to get me back in shape. I won a scholarship to do my graduate work and left California forever. I have been clean and sober for 31 years now and I had never thought that the happiness that is mine today would have been possible. I couldn't even have imagined it; I didn't have the capacity. A part-time actor now, my coach and I worked on a monologue based on that night. I hadn't thought of this song until last night, the night before I was to perform the monologue for the camera. Remembering at last, I came to KZfaq to find it. Well, " I live another life," and it is certainly an unexpectedly happy one I had never thought possible. Thanks, Heart, for your company that night and for writing the words that expressed what I couldn't.
