Actually, Croatian fans were chanting our most recognizable game chant: ‘U boj, u boj, za narod svoj.’ The direct translation would be: ‘Into battle, into battle, for our people.’ We weren’t chanting anything towards the Japanese crowd… All respect goes to the Japanese side. They were amazing.

As a Japanese person, I was rooting for this team, and I cried because they weren't able to make it to the quarterfinals😢 However, I am very happy to have played against such great teams as Spain, Germany, Croatia and Costa Rica. Japan was my favourite, shame we had to play against them. I really love the way Japanese players and fans are so disciplined and polite, real gentlemen. It broke my heart seeing them cry cause it reminded me of us in 2018. You can tell these people really love their country and football. You can be really proud of yourselves Japan!

Big respect for Croatia from Japan. It was a great game with the great sportsmanship from both teams. Croatia is my favorite team since the last world cup. I remember my heart was broken at the moment they couldn’t get the trophy. Their teamwork is beautiful and Modric is the greatest captain ever. Hope they will be the champion this time for sure!!

It's safe to say all Croats loved the Japan team and hated that we had to play you guys. Even as a Croat, I would have been fine with getting knocked out by such a team because you played fair, you played tough and you played with so much heart! Most Croats are aware of Japan's history, how important honor is to you and how much dignity you have as a people and your team truly embodied those same qualities. Croatian fans never disrespect their opponent, unless Croatia gets disrespected first. A good example of that would be the match vs Canada, prior to which the Canadian coach and especially their goalkeeper said some insulting stuff that pissed off a lot of people.

the Japanese are my favorite team at the championship, of course after Croatia, because I'm Croatian! A good match, a quality opponent, we played badly, but we still have character and love for our team, the people and the whole world. We, little Croatia, are again in the quarter-finals of the world championship. We are playing against Brazil and we will probably lose because they are a much stronger team. We are irrational and we will pray to God with all our hearts to beat Brazil even though it is "impossible". If Luka Modrić plays one of his best matches and if we beat Brazil, the atmosphere in Croatia will be the same as in 2018 when we won the silver. Joško Guardiol is our trump card bigger than Modrić in this championship.

It was a tough game, and when neither side can score that goal from open game it is the penalties where the winner is determined. Luckily for us Croats our team has some experience when it comes to that. 🇯🇵 has shown they are a strong football nation and we in 🇭🇷 knew it would not be easy but still few thought it would be this hard.
