Every year students take IIT JEE and NEET exams only 1% get into government engineering or medical colleges and others pursue their degrees. Students are very excited to join the colleges and very curious about their college life. Moreover, many are afraid of the raging in colleges.
Ragging involves senior students engaging in various forms of physical, psychological, or emotional abuse or harassment of new students (freshers). This practice is intended to initiate or integrate freshers into the student community, but it often leads to severe consequences, including trauma, physical injury, or even death.
I have shared a dangerous ragging story of IIT Mandi.
Many of you are going into Engineering or Medical or any College as a fresher. Hence, it's my responsibility to guide you in handling the situation whenever you face this problem.
Ragging is common in Engineering or Medical colleges but some colleges also have no ragging system the name of ragging they take is PDP known as the Personal Development Program.
On August 11, 2023, an unofficial pre-freshers' party organized by seniors took place at IIT Mandi. Such events have been a tradition for many years, intended to facilitate interaction between freshers and seniors.
However, during this particular party, several freshers reported incidents of bullying and harassment by seniors. Some of the affected freshers have lodged formal complaints against the seniors involved.
