Heated Bidding Battle for Richter’s Iceberg

Painted in 1982 it is the largest of only three Iceberg paintings Richter based on photographs taken during a journey through the icy straights of Greenland in 1972. The painting lead a stellar night for post-war German art in what overall was the third highest total ever for a Sotheby’s London Contemporary Sale.
