Let’s talk about heated and unheated sapphires! What heat treatment is and all the questions you may have about it. Heat treatment is a very common and accepted practice in the world of jewelry. Gemstones are exposed to high temperatures to enhance the color and clarity.
If you have any questions or are interested in inquiring about a custom engagement ring, please send us an email on info@fineandflux.com You can also view our custom jewelry gallery with our latest work here:

Heating gemstones generally enhances their color. They can be lightened, darkened, or changed through heat treatment. For example, white sapphires can be heated and turned blue, because that is a more desirable color in sapphires. Heat treatment is applied to all shades of sapphire, but mostly to achieve the highly sought-after Royal Blue color as it is extremely rare to find that color in nature. Heating sapphires also enhances their clarity! When the stones are heated, it’s almost as if the imperfections are melted.
Although other treatments may be frowned upon within the jewelry industry, heat treatment is a common and accepted practice! Instead of thinking of it as a treatment, think of it as an enhancement. When buying a sapphire, it is expected that the stone you purchase has been heated, unless specifically stated that it hasn’t.
Although heat treatment does not diminish the value of a stone, an unheated sapphire of a good color will be much more valuable than an unheated one because of its rarity. For example, we have a heated 2.6 ct sapphire that values $9568, whereas a non-heated and slightly lighter sapphire in almost the same size is worth $9250. That is because it was naturally found in this extremely sought-after color. Comparably, a paler heated sapphire also in the same size is valued at $1220. This jump in the price is due to the heat treatment.

Making a Sapphire turn a more blue color , Heat is not always required .This is due to the chemical reaction of changing the oxidation value of iron ( Fe +2). This can be done by plasma sputtering, such as using hydrogen gas ions to hit a sapphire gem. It can happen, the temperature of the sapphire gem is around 350 degrees Celsius, which will not cause Sapphire fingerprints do not melt. Or the minerals inclusions sapphires do not change as if they were heated.

Is it true that when an exhibition place is not sold, its selling price becomes cheaper when returned to the shop for sale? I’m offer and it’s reserved, a 3 ct sapphire in vivid Royal Blue with HT (I’m thinking it’s treated n heated) and it’s with a GIL report. It’s less than 5 digit in $, is this worth buying? Thanks

What about Beryllium Treatment with heat treatment on sapphire?
@touchmycamerathroughthefence
@touchmycamerathroughthefence 9 ай бұрын
Beryllium diffusion is a more severe treatment and lowers the value more than heating. Beryllium diffusion treated stones wouldn’t be heat treated as well, because both treatments have the same efffect: enhancing the apparent color of the stone.

Hi, I have this Sapphire, could heat treatment work to get transparency? How can I send you pics

Some colors can be removed by heating. For example if a ruby has a slightly blue zone, it can be removed by heating. Also in sapphire if you have milky or silky nature(TiO2) that can be melted to improve transparency
