Demi Moore presents the 2009 Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture to Chris Nolan who accepts the award on behalf of winner, the late Heath Ledger for his performance in "The Dark Knight." Nolan accepts the award and gives a speech expressing his sadness over Ledger's untimely death, stating that the actors impact in Hollywood will continue to thrive for years to come. Other nominees included Tom Cruise, Robert Downey Jr, Ralph Fiennes, and Philip Seymour Hoffman.

@Iu Iulitza No. The award was awarded to an actor who did an incredible job at portraying a darker version of the Joker. His acting thoughout the movie was phenomenal and 100% deserving of an award. Anything to do with "he only got it because he died" and your bullshit point of it being political is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. If you disagree with me about the choice of actor because another actor that year also did a brilliant job in his role then good - that's a valid reason, but any other reason why Heath Ledger was undeserving is plain shit

I love that they cut to RDJ a few times here and now years later they’ve worked together and he said said that a reassuring look helped him through that. Amazing. Actually this whole awards season with Oppenheimer is quite amazing, both Christopher and Cillian have both always been very private but their love and happiness about this movie and their success of it has given them some window to willingly open up, it’s very nice.

I'm pretty sure RDJ already had "gotten on the wagon". I don't think it was too long before this, but he's been sober for quite some time now. Cuz if you remember 'Iron Man' came out same year as TDK, and they generally don't give big franchise roles to people who have struggling substance abuse issues; especially those who are basically re-inventing their career at the time.

I think RDJ had already been on the track of getting his life together by this time. Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang was a movie that definitely helped his film career re-launch and that was in 2005. By 2008 Academy Award season, he was already in Iron Man

He died a Joker. The best Joker we have and will ever see. EDIT: It is objective to decide who's the best. Heath gave in his all to the performance, and it shows. Mr. Phoenix is one of the most expressive actors out there, and he's undoubtedly going to do a great job. I am, in fact, an admirer of all his works. Jack Nicholson's version was brilliant for his time. What I mean to say is, that Heath was a gem, and one must not disrespect his work in the wake of other also earth-shattering performances. RIP Heath. I hope Mr. Phoenix will carry your legacy forward, make you proud.

Every time I watch the Dark Knight, I take away even more respect for the talent this man possessed. I think of the roles he would have had since then and what brilliant twist he would have added to them, had he not been taken from us at such a young age. RIP Heath Ledger.

RDJ was nominated for his role in 'Tropic Thunder'. He played a believable Australian, playing an extremely believable (but purposely stereotypical) black man. Lol That deserves a nomination, but Heath did deserve the award overall.

What people don’t realize RDJ was in the exact position as Heath years ago and almost died because of it. BUT the way he put his life around and got help. That is what makes me love him even more. So glad that he got help and is loved even more by everyone including the young kids , teens and young adults. RDJ was remembering his dark days and he knows exactly what Heath was going through. 😔😭 that is what hurts and makes me emotional. P.s- I love that TOM cruise got up and started clapping. That was amazing 😭💖
