I do plumbing and HVAC...... Malco and Wiss is my choice. I use the wide bill reds about 95 percent of the time. Hint: Choke up in the throat of the cutters as far as you can, don't close them fully during the cut, stop before you do, and lightly push in your cut direction and slowly opening at the same time, going as deep into the cutters as possible and repeat. This prevents "fish hooks"

Thank you for that important tip.

Catus Maximus hopefully I explained it to where it makes sense

Yes your instructions are good making sure that you pressed forward during the Cod and the only cut parsley so you're not actually stopping and starting each time it's more of a continuous action so you don't have those little fish hook hangnails

Those crescents are huge - real heavy "iron" - where can I get my hands on one of those ? Estate sales ? The HF super scissors are only 5-6$ after coupons...I need one to open all the thick packaging that currently need dangerous utility knife usage to get open. Would have loved to see you slicing through packaging with all of these monster scissors !

While the colored handles are often referred to as "aviation snips", the serrated jaws make them useless in that application. The Wiss and Malco are what is normally used. The Malco colored handles shown are also the offset type.
@CatusMaximus5 жыл бұрын
Thank you for that additional information I do not realize the serrations in the pattern they leave on the sheet metal was an issue in aviation applications

@@CatusMaximus The rough edges have to be filed, sanded, or ground away somehow because the "teeth marks" are stress concentrations which will crack. Smooth jaws save hours of extra work.

You could use Milwaukee ductwork Sawzall blades 48-00-1630, or fine tooth jigsaw blades

Where do you put Midwest snips compared to Malco and Stanley?

I have a short-nosed straight snip from Midwest and like it very much. Maybe not as well known, but I think the quality is there.

@@donoradvocate lol not well known?? Midwest is one of the most popular snips.
