Heavy Train Pushed & Pulled Up THE Hill, CSX Train Passing NS Steel Coils Train Me In The Middle

Finally Got A Heavy Train Working Hard Up THE Hill With DPU Action! CSX Train Passing In Front Of Me With Norfolk Southern Train Behind Me At Railroad Crossing, One Track Guarded, The Other Track Unguarded. High & Wide Load Car At End Of 4th Train With DPU. Abandoned RR Crossing Included. These Trains Are In Northern Kentucky At Several Different Locations.
First we go to THE Hill. This is the best place in the entire tri-state area to watch Class 1 Trains working up steep grades. The ruling grade is 1.18% and the hill goes from the Ohio River valley all the way to Erlanger area. Train #123 is seen conquering the grade with several locomotives on the front and one on the rear. I love the sound of the locomotives working up the hill. Notice that the crew waved to me! Awesome!
Then I stayed on the NS Rat Hole Line but went south about a bakers dozen miles to Walton, Kentucky. CSX and NS come together here. CSX isn't very busy here but I got a northbound CSX train at the Locust Street railroad crossing. This intermodal train was half way past me when a Norfolk Southern steel coils train passes in the opposite direction. This is Train 375 en route from Middletown, Ohio to Rockport, Indiana. I was in the middle of two passing trains. Was that cool or what?!
Next, I went a mile or so north to the Gaines Home. This is the oldest house in Walton and is a popular Railfan hangout. We see a northbound mixed freight with a DPU on the rear. Notice the depressed centre flat on the rear. It has 8 axels and is commonly used to carry large oversized transformers.
The video also includes a look at the first train ( #123 ) passing the abandoned railroad crossing in Richwood, Kentucky. Part 2 will show the whole train and other trains that I got nearby. What a magnificent sight seeing that Norfolk Southern thundering up that steep grade. It must chew up so much fuel. I’d hate to be the one paying the gas bills for those trains.

That was a really nice NS mixed freight going past the Abner Gaines house! Pretty long with a DPU, and I love the drop deck flat car on the rear. Another excellent catch! 😊😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤❤

The DPU with that depressed heavy duty flat car was awesome! I love special deliveries by train. I wonder why it was moved and for what it was needed. Great video!

All the reliable places to get videos and as if on command there they are. Waiting for trains. 1) Fascination. 2) Anticipation.3) Frustration but try to think of #2. 4) Notification hearing it on radio or blowing for a nearby Crossing. 5)Satisfaction. 6) Repetition. If one is good two or more are even better! Take care on tthis Father's Day weekend

That is a very nice place to film and post on such a beautiful day. I like it. But, the long, steep grade is kinda tough on my computer. It is old and has been refurbished once a couple of years back. Probably time to get a new one, Señor Jaws. Have a great day, morning people. I always like the hardworking hill action. The Milwaukee Roads' climb out of the Menominee valley was around 1.2% and most trains were underpowered with the locomotives screaming in Run 8 to maintain a walking pace. MILW was too cheap to run helpers so the right of way was littered with broken knuckles. Anorher excellent video, enjoyed it much. Thanks JT!

I like Crescent Springs for the railfans too JT. Awesome first train with my favourite locos. They were working hard! Another beautiful day in KY. please send dome warm sunshine over the pond to us JT its cold & raining. NS 123 starts in Decatur, IL and works Lafayette, IN and Danville, KY on their way down to Chattanooga. They'll also have Caterpillar loads from time to time as well.

You were at The Hill in Crescent Springs, Kentucky on 13 June 2024 to catch Norfolk Southern train #123 coming up The Hill from Ludlow, Kentucky. All the locomotives on this train were working hard to shove the train up The Hill. You also caught Norfolk Southern train #375 in Walton, Kentucky. How did you manage to catch Norfolk Southern train #123 on the same day at both Crescent City, Kentucky and Richwood, Kentucky? Did the train have to stop or slow down for some reason? I wonder why the heavy-duty flat car was behind the DPU.
