Howdy, y'all! My name is Mike and I absolutely love scavenging for free stuff, random treasures, lost valuables and other interesting artifacts. I mainly rock the dumpster diving scene but can be found digging through trash curbside as well as scavenging the river bottoms for lost treasures in the summer months. Join me on my epic voyages!

Trophy’s that end up in the trash do not tell the story of the kids who won them and the pride they experience when they get them. My son was a winner and it was pure joy to watch.😊

When you have too load stuff by yourself you learn how too do it a certain way so you dont kill yourself!! Mike has deffinetly figured it out. Stay safe and scrappy scrap!!

Pro tip, leave the heavy item on the curb and back up to it so you don't have to lift from the ground. Carry a short length of 4x4 or 6x6 block of wood or even a simple milk crate to prop it up so it's a easier lift/tilt into the truck. Unless you're stripping stainless off bbq grills they are usually take up too much room and don't weigh much like the dishwasher you skipped, better off pulling the cast iron grates and cutting the gas valve until you get a trailer.

You should keep track of ceiling fans, put a notch in your side boards for each one. The amount you find blows me away!!

Wow just wow! That was a load. Mike we only get 1 back. And when I was your age, guessing late 30's, I thought I was invincible. I could do anything and no one would stop me. Well when 50's hit, my back went out, without me. I have back problems. No scrap is worth that. You have to take care of you, no one else will.

Nice finds :) I can't believe how wasteful some people are, good job you're there to make the best of their scrap. I do an occasional bit of pick and fix when I find useable chucked appliances, as my Mom says; "waste not want not".

Flip A/Cs upside down - heaviest Lowry is toward the bottom. That way the weight will be higher before you lift it.

21:10 I’ve dealt with that situation before and learned to step the item up on a smaller block or piece of scrap or whatever on the ground, that way you can get a better tipping fulcrum on the tailgate a little higher up, even 6-12 inches will help.🧠 AND 💪 gotta be strong! One more thing: 25:09 .metal detector?? that’s irony. 🤨

Awesome vid Mike - Gotta be strong indeed! Could you put a couple of totes at the back to just put the wire into? Also, a good pair of wire snips and a mix of screwdrivers so you can remove stuff likes the sides of those BBQs. Also removing the grill first may make it easier to lift!!

there are some things you could have grabbed and thrown into shred like the vacuum motor, keyboard, tv/radio, trophies may have had brass but couldnt tell. Golf clubs are worth grabbing for shred some have aluminum. Nice big load of scrappity scrap scrap!

Time to pick up trailer Mike. Lower to the ground (easier for heavy lifting) and you can load it up nicely. just a little utility type, maybe a 4x10? Cheers

You scored on the AC unit , there's #1 copper , #2 copper , electrical wire , a compressor , a electric motor ..sometimes the fan blade is aluminum and the reefer but you gotta cut all the littl copper tubes off of the end and remove the metal plate that holds the little copper tubes in place for it to be considered clean , a sawzall works the best , and the rest is all scrapity scrap scrap scrap...i love those things.

Ok since this vid is old I'll say this for future reference. Re:AC unit time stamp 18:41. You are trying to lift the entire weight into the truck in one go. Very hard and no leverage. Try laying the bbq down flat. Lift the AC onto it. Then make the incremental jump to the tail gate. Small steps to make a large problem easier. Also purchase for yourself an aircraft cable hand winch and use it to come along bigger items. Other than that keep on keeping on Mike the Scavenger, I'm certain the scrap heaps in the sky will ultimately open up and pour into dotty.

Mike, you'd save your back a lot of pain if you install one of the truck winches... But I get you buddy. I wouldn't have let that A/C unit go either! I'm an old pearl diver from New York my self.. Hello Mike... you should get you a good pair of side cutters so when you find that small appliance stuff you can just cut the cords off and leave the rest of the stuff there in the trash. I always enjoy your videos, great job.
