It truly is. I love how Steward at the end humbly, but in a very matter of fact way tells Rummy in so many words, "I just blessed you with some precious jewels. Only Bert Sugar can hit you with this level shit, but even then, I was in the corner with a lot of these warriors. A true legend and they are both sorely missed.

I was dealing poker in Atlantic city back in the 90's and the man sitting next to me spoke. I recognized his voice immediately and said to myself that's Emmanuel Steward. Then I noticed his cuff links and they said the initials "E.S." before I had a chance to turn my head and look at him. I told him what an honor it was to meet him and he couldn't have been nicer. A real gentleman. R.I.P. Sir.

I grew up watching HBO boxing with my Dad, a lot of great memories. Besides my Dad, a voice of reason and simple observation of the sweet science, was provided by Emmanuel Steward, he was so wise. Of course as well as Jim Lampley. Both easily the greatest, commanding commentators in tone and voice inflection. Sincere cats and always dressed to the nines. As a kid those days seeing Las Vegas, the fights, the show..it always drove me to get ringside seats. ☝🏻 It just broke my heart when I heard he die, I wondered how Jim Lampley must of felt..after losing his long time buddy/mentor/ boxing enthusiast and co worker. God bless everyone, fight the good fight and thanks for reading. Thank you for posting this video. ✊🏻💯

I love his insight about Liston. He was leaving a trail of destruction through the heavyweight division in the 50s. He was likely older than his handlers claimed by the time he fought Clay.

So glad Steward dispelled the myth of Marciano. Still a great fighter, just doesn't measure up to the best of the best historically.

@@lavzorvic4129 Not really, he gave Mike credit for what he achieved given his size. He just said Mike had trouble with bigger tough guys, which is true. But Mike managed to overcome then and win. So that commends respect.

@@michaeltrumph121 He said the same for Marciano. Steward doesn't rate either of them, or ANY small heavyweight. That's why his answer is always the same for small fighters "did well to overcome his disadvantages".

It's an unusual thing about the heavyweight division. Even though it's an odd thing to do when discussing guys who fight in the same division, you kind of have to temper heavyweight evaluations with a sort of pound-for-pound perspective. To take it to today's scene, Oleksandr Usyk may in a sense be 'better' than some top heavyweights but not able to beat them in heavyweight fights. Or if you're for example a young Evander Holyfield, you could have ruled the cruiserweight division for ages, but 1% as many people would have known your name. So you take the step up to the marquee division -- but in doing so, you do take on disadvantages. Guys, on the other hand, who have a lot of skill and ability yet are naturally the size of a 'super heavyweight' will just always have significant advantages over you that do not entirely come from that skill and ability.
