At 2:20 if you're new to having a hedgehog or thinking about getting one be careful with baths some hedgehogs get dry skin when you bath them too much and sometimes baths help their dry skin it all depends on the hedgehog also when buying moisturizer and soap make sure it's scentless and genital hedgehogs tend to not like new smells and usually will try and get the smell off of them. Also when washing your clothes or using perfume I suggest using the same type and smell each time because hedgehogs are pretty close to blind and use smell to tell who you are it'll also help if you're trying to bond with your househog😁 (this is just what I know, im in no way a professional and could be wrong about some of this)

@@eli8600able well I mean for, one no body should just be letting their animals reproduce. With hedgehogs especially there can be a lot of health issues for the mom and the babies so that’s why it’s important for experienced people to do it and not just have your pet hedgehog have babies. Giving birth increases risks of cancer and in some cases wobbly hedgehog syndrome. The babies can also get stuck in the birth canal and cause the mom to bleed out and die. There’s a lot of things that can go wrong when you let your pets reproduce, it’s best to leave it to the professionals.

Stuff that you might not know: baths are good for hedgehogs, but you have to do them with a certain regularity or only when you think it’s necessary. While they can give your hedgehog dry skin if done too often or strongly, they’re also very important to keep their skin free of any possible allergies, infections, fungus, etc. More often than not their dry skin is being caused by bacteria, parasites or fungus. So actually baths are important, and you have to do them with certain regularity. People think it makes their skin worse but it’s the other way around; as with anything, not too much and not too little is the best.

@elisegrimes42993 жыл бұрын
I've only just got a hedgie and I've read not to use gloves but since he's new and not 100% tame yet I sometimes have to get him out of his cage in a blanket when he first wakes up and I occasionally need a blanket on my knees while I hold him. Is that bad lol?
@user-hn6wj6hp1s3 жыл бұрын
@@elisegrimes4299 Tip: I know picking up a hedgehog at first is kinda scary (especially if they’re all spiked up) But have you noticed if it calms down when in your arms? If it does, then that means it has gotten used to your scent. Next time you wake your hedgehog up, try having it sniff your finger (if you can get to the face) Usually it calms them down, and then you can scoop them up from their belly (less chance of getting spiked) Also, make sure to stop picking it up with the blanket eventually. Getting used to the spike and being more confident will greatly help bonding, and just get you more used to your animal (Of course since you’re new, it’s fine for now. Maybe after 3 weeks you should start picking it up without the blanket)
@kindaakaii8673 жыл бұрын
Actually you can snuggle with them in a towel and let them dig in it. It actually helps their social development being with a person and sleeping with them. They are obviously notional and love snuggles. Is that what you meant?
@zerozeroeszeroed3 жыл бұрын
Yes, but they weren't exactly handling or holding the hedgehog with the towel, they were holding it out so that the hedgehog could burrow in there because that's what hedgehogs do...it can always build up trust and a bond with the hedgehog and the person if the hedgehog is comfortable and calm. That is true though, it's not good to use gloves or towels to hold your hedgehog, as it would be harder for them to smell your scent, get used to it, and know that they are safe.
@explodingdustrags29523 жыл бұрын

For the record, NEVER JUST TAKE A HEDGEHOG! counts for every animal ofcourse. Not all hedgehogs allow you to rub their belly. Most of them are grumpy and never in the mood to cuddle since they live on their own. Also, never wash your hedgehog more than once in 2 weeks, unless they have a bad skincondition like scabies or ringworm. ALWAYS make sure there is a vet close to you that treats hedgehogs, don't just go to a random vet since they think pygmys work the same as european hedgies. Get the right food type, wich can stack your bills, just like visits to the vet. Hedgehogs can be very expensive and are very vulnareble. Make sure you know what you are dealing with!!!
